Here are a few of my pictures from Rally Cyprus. I had the privilege of spending the week with former WRC driver and now driving coach to the WRC stars, Pentti Airikkala who joined Alister, Paul, Martin and me for the event.

We provided the transportation and event guidance (Alister owns http://www.ultimaterallyworld.com/index2.html), Pentti provided the Jokes and close VIP access, we had a really great time, Pentti is brilliant company.

Thanks, Cyprus is a very diferent event to Acropolis event though the terain/weather is similar. I hope it wasnt the last running of Rally Cyprus as its posibly being dropped next year.

I was on the TV day one. LOL check out http://www.wrc.com/en_GB/Gallery/Video/2003/001/ROVANPERA+ACTION+DAY1.htm thats me on the outside of the corner at 4 seconds, i have a union jack flag on my back. :D

I had a great time, having Pentti with us all week was great fun. My camera overheated at the finish, it was that hot! so i didnt get any shots of us in the Subaru hospitality area, but it was great to be there and see Petter with his family enjoying the win.

The Peugeot area at the finish was very subdued, Rovampera did a great job getting 2nd, he had to drive most of day 3 with his engine in safe mode as it was overheating, then the driveshaft failed too. :D

It was fun listening to Pentti as Hirvonen came through, as he is teaching him right now and he seems to be doing what he has been taught :D LOL

Ace work John, you know we were within yards of each other on day 2 at s10 or s12 by the bridge, check out these pics I took and you will see, I presume you got wet feet ?.
We stayed there for the repeat stage too and Ang sat in the river all afternoon, they were really catching some air off the bridge, more pics to follow as we have only just got back.

I was there too at ss11 and ss12 just by the bridge! I can just see myself in one of the piccies. I was standing just by the press photographers (most of them French). I was wearing a wide brimmed Tilley hat (canvas).

I was also in Limassol for the off on day 1, someone in the press office gave me a Gold pass for "services rendered". Got a great view of the boys and girls setting off for fuelling, watch this area of the bbs for pictures.CLICKY (http://www.ebcroft.demon.co.uk/photo.htm)


How mad is it that we were all there in the same place within feet of each other and did not know it? My missus would not let me take by WR blue "Tourdecosse 2000" t-shirts otherwise we migh have made contact.

its a very small world these days. i sometimes wonder if i should have my name tatood on my forehead, the number of times i miss saying hi to people who i should know. The net is a strange thing. :D

Glad you like the pictures, some great shots there too. Cyprus and Acropolis were both great events, i really enjoyed them. Its not just the rally, its the diference in cultures you get to enjoy whilst you are there that makes it fun. Not to mention the weather. :D

Are you going to the Germany next? I fancy seeing a tarmac stage..

I saw Solberg and co-driver at Limassol on Friday at about 0640, and wished them luck, it must have been that that enabled them to win <BG>.

yes, That was our Nissan 4x4 thing. We always manage to park up very close to the stages, most people give up too soon and walk for miles. :D

Not sure i will go to Germany yet, I have been to Germany a few times ;) and part of my trips to the WRC are to take in countries and cultures i havent seen before. I will be doing Finland though. :D

Are you organizing a trip to Finland?

Alister has everything in place for Finland, he has plenty of acomodation pre booked in the heart of the rally, which i believe is the major stumbling block to visiting Finland. Drop him a mail if you are interested in going. :)

Alister set the company up last year, he spent the year researching the events so that he had a full knowledge of the way each country runs its WRC rally, where to stay (and not to stay!) etc and to also recee the stages to be able to provide guidance based on knowledge.

He started taking clients to events from Monte Carlo this year.

Alister is very experienced, he has been a front line competitor in british rallying for a very long time and knows the sport inside out.
