View Full Version : Can you throw knackered bike helmets in the dustbin?? weapon69 19 June 2003, 20:09 Not sure what my bin man is gonna say, is it ok just to put them in the bin? Burt 19 June 2003, 20:11 Yep, worse things been thrown in, cookers, nikes arms and legs :D weapon69 19 June 2003, 20:26 LOL :D KnobbySP1 20 June 2003, 12:51 Save 'em for go-karting rather than using your nice new lid :D T.C 20 June 2003, 13:04 There is nothing to stop you throwing it in the bin, but make sure that you cut it in half first if you can or at least cut the straps off. There are a lot of riders who scoure rubbish tips and bins for this very type of thing and will wear them rather than buy a decent fitting new one. Jonto 20 June 2003, 14:40 Cut a helmet in half ! What with ? [Edited by Jonto - 20/06/2003 14:41:29] weapon69 20 June 2003, 18:26 yeh good point jonto :D I was just thinking that....hmm must develop my muscles a little further before i can snap a helmet in half with my bare hands:D Gixxer 750 21 June 2003, 14:39 Recently crashed and my Arai is now scrap. Although it just has a few small scratches on the outside, the liner is all deformed. Once I get my insurance payout, I will cut off the straps and offer it to the local police for their various roadshow so that they can show how damaged a near perfect helmet can be. If they don't want it,I'll drill a load of holes in it, and do as much damage with a sledge hammer as possible before I bin it Tiggs 21 June 2003, 18:24 i just threw out all my old lids last week..never crossed my mind to "damage" them. if some pikey cheapskate wants to go through my trash for an old lid then sod em! they should also avoid eating my moldy dinner scraps but im not going to signpost that either! martinl 21 June 2003, 20:58 save them they make interesting flower pots JohnnyRob 25 June 2003, 09:49 No problem throwing them in the bin. I can manage to 'hit the hoop' at about twenty feet (in the big green wheelie types) but over that can't get the lid into the bin... lol! Seriously, cutting the straps off is definately a good idea... weapon69 25 June 2003, 10:05 LOL :) What scanky sod goes through rubbish tips looking for helmets though?!?!?! Ewwwwww! TBMeech 25 June 2003, 11:11 I've seen it at our local tip, the gippos who work there skank everything. I always cut the straps and give the helmet a good old pounding with a hammer to really mark it up... DanTheMan 29 June 2003, 19:49 MartinL is on the right wavelength, I have seen some used as hanging baskets, nice touch :) ....although the petals do tend to blow off above a ton ! Avi 29 June 2003, 19:56 Have a P1ss in it too.. :D catflap 29 June 2003, 23:38 i tried bashing one up once with a hammer (was ready to be thrown - honest) and boy it was tough ;) weapon69 30 June 2003, 12:11 hmmm hanging baskets eh..... fast bloke 01 July 2003, 12:12 After bashing a damaged Aria with a hammer before dumping it I realised how fekin strong it was and bought another one exactly the same. Gixerman 01 July 2003, 12:48 After hitting the armco at the Nurburgring at 120mph:eek: I got to see first hand just how tough Arai's are!!! Wouldn't recomend this excessive form of testing though:D:D martinl 01 July 2003, 21:22 Gardening is much safer. flat4 02 July 2003, 00:14 mate crashed his brand new shoei at a donnington track day, so decided to slice it in half and make a nice (but expensive) clock out of it  kev :) weapon69 03 July 2003, 09:26 LOL I might as well keep the knackered one at this rate! Im going to be looking at everyone on a bike now wondering if they scavenged the helmet off the rubbish tip! :D |
