View Full Version : setting myself up for abuse form Bikers forum!
Secret Squirrel 17 June 2003, 09:41 My teenage brother was killed when knocked off his motorbike. As you can imagine, I am particularly conscious of bikers when driving, giving them a wide berth, looking extra hard when moving between lanes, and I would rather relinquish my space in the motorway chain when a biker is sitting inches from my bumper. Yet lately I've had nothing but abusive gestures as I go about my business getting through the traffic. This morning a biker gesticulated at me, apparently because I had the temerity to nip down a side road to cut out a large traffic queue, emerging at a roundabout a whole car ahead of him. Who are these self-appointed arbiters of road use, a significant chunk of whom scare the willies out of you as they weave in and out? The commuter run is stressful enough thanks, without sanctimonious finger-wagging!
NotoriousREV 17 June 2003, 09:47 Hmm, if it's happening a lot, maybe, just maybe, it's time to re-evaluate your driving?
maniac morgan 17 June 2003, 10:06 no i dont think he should he should get stakes fixed to this wheels so the twats can be unseated a flick of the wheel, i also get abuse from bikes genrally as i will not race em off the lights not much point really unless you have a sub 3 second scooby not many of them around. the times i wish i was in a company van instead of me scoob i would leave em on the ground . i must add not all bikers are like this but just seems to be an ever growing number of idiots abusing power on busy roads not that some scooby owners dont do it :)

NotoriousREV 17 June 2003, 10:24 It makes me laugh that people go on about a group of road users being abusive or whatever and then say things like "I'd knock them to the ground". Who abusing what power now, dickhead?
Get a fcuking life, you loser. What a big man you must be to be able to run someone over in your big van. Tell you what, get out your van and tell them what your problem is if your so hard. Hopefully you'll get a smack in the teeth by someone wearing carbon armoured gloves.
Leslie 17 June 2003, 10:30 As a biker myself I find that I agree with Secret S. I get exactly the same treatment from an ever increasing number of bikers these days. I always give them adequate room to overtake, moving well to the left and waving them past. Absolutely no point in holding a 'bike up with the acceleration they have. The annoying thing is that when they do overtake they have to demonstrate the "macho" thing by chopping in front of me and giving the gestures for no reason whatsoever except that I am in a Scooby. On a bike I am quite happy to pick my way through the traffic but hardly ever have a problem with a car driver, most of whom will let me through easily. The thing that really upsets them though is when I am on a decent twisty and they find they cannot corner as fast as the Scoob. I never try to obstruct them but they still seem to lose their "rag" very easily. Very childish behaviour which just antagonises the car drivers.
I think your remark about SS was unfair and without basis, Not' Rev.

NotoriousREV 17 June 2003, 10:36 Leslie, I've NEVER had abuse from a biker when I'm driving my car. Not once. So what do I do differently to those of you who do get abuse from bikers?
IN THE STICKS 17 June 2003, 10:36 It's getting good ..http://216.40.249.192/s/cwm/3dlil/lurk.gif
IN THE STICKS 17 June 2003, 10:40 I find most bikers OK ,but I do live out in the sticks where the pressure of driving is less . I always move over to the nearside when I can so they can pass easier , and it's nice when they thank you as they pass ...not worth racing against a bike (unless it's one of those stupid kids on a moped !)

Old_Fart 17 June 2003, 10:46 I ride a bike...I think alot of bikers get scared because they don't pay enough attention so a car 'popping' out in front of them comes as a bit of a shock. That gets the adrenalin pumping and they may well overreact to small things.
THey shouldn't assume cars will move over for them though. If I'm driving and I can move for a bike without inconviencing myself I will, but otherwise not. I expect the same treatment from cars when I'm on the bike...but then again maybe I'm just overly polite.
Chuck
Not Rev, don't take this the wrong way but I really hope you don't ride your bike with the kind of attitude in your post re: smashing someone in the face. Fair enough knocking someone off in your van is also an a55holes trick but it sounds to me as if there are 2 attitude problems here.
I ride a bike and I do it with regard for my own safety and that of other road users. Less attitudes more give an take is the recipe for safety and fun.
Has a post been deleted from this thread? It doesn't read too clearly.
NotoriousREV 17 June 2003, 11:03 NACRO, I only get that attitude when I see some hero typist threaten to run bikers over, makes the blood boil. I'm very calm and relaxed on my bike and never aggresive, which is the exact opposite of when I'm in my car  ;)
IN THE STICKS 17 June 2003, 11:03 dan4 ..get your popcorn out ,this one might go on for a while .
NotoriousREV 17 June 2003, 11:08 Aha, you're in the Bikers forum now, you're all going down :D
Where are my 2 wheeled brethren?
I don't think my 1st post was out of order at all. None of us are perfect drivers and we should all take some personal responsibility for our actions. If someone gives me a hand gesture I think about why they did and only after careful consideration will I charge after them with my hand on the horn and my full beams blazing while threatening to kill them. Or if I'm on my bike I'll shake my head and picture this litte fella >
Not Rev- glad to hear it the idiot was probably full of sh1t anyway. To55ers like that are best ignored.
Lets all stay safe and remember who the real kings of the road are
paulpalmer 17 June 2003, 11:26 I have been driving just over ten years now and always give bikers room and I have never once received abuse from one  generally they wave to say thanks and that's it.
maniac morgan 17 June 2003, 11:34 huumm nitrous interesting response, seems the ever increasing no of bad attitude bikers has just gained one more in number, my addy isbramley court hatton derbys, any time yopu want to have a ride down you are welcome and i will get out of me scoob and shove that glove where the sun dont shine, i am a placid person but cant abide tossers who unnessarily gesture for NOT racing with them i may take your advice seein as your a biker and get out and slap the next one, as theirs no need to piss people off for not racing them , fair enough if you cut em up/ delibratly obstrct them your fair game but i dont take kindly to being callrd a cu*t for not driving dangerously

NotoriousREV 17 June 2003, 11:58 Morgan,
a) I didn't call you a "c*nt", I called you a "dickhead" and a "loser" for wanting to run someone over in your van, something I think 99% of the population would (or should) agree with
b) I'd edit your address if I were you, undesirables read these forums and may use the address to their advantage (genuine friendly advice)
c) yeah, yeah, your a tough guy. Like I could even be bothered to travel to your house to have a scrap because of comments on a BBS. You really are a keyboard hero. I'll meet you outside school at hometime
d) I'd seriously kick your ass anyway ;)
DRUNKNORGY 17 June 2003, 12:13 I have been on the receiving end of agro about 5 years ago when in my car for drawing level at a junction with a biker to admire the bike(he thought I was trying to edge him out and then proceded to block every lane on the dual carridgeway I moved into:rolleyes:)and also at the weekend whilst on my bike from a Saab Turbo driver who squeezed next to me at the front of a set of lights (to try and get past and subsequently tailgated me and yelled obscenites (bloodclot and similar)at me whilst on the wrong side of the road on a busy high street with traffic coming the other way (he wasn't into bikes IMO) but he was trying to goad me into racing him, but I reckon he would have done something a bit daft if he'd lost.
Apart from that incident, I always let the bikes go bye, why ? cos in traffic they don't hold me up even if they squeeze in front of me, also on the open road, most have the performace to obliterate me and also as I drive and ride have enough respect (and sense) not to get too close.
DRUNKNORGY 17 June 2003, 12:23 Wise words from the Rev, plenty of 'headbangers' who drive and ride who would take you up on your offer (and some). Its one thing to sort it out on the roadside, but another to invite it to your doorstep. Feck, you obviously haven't lived in a rough area  Be careful for what you wish for Morgan
Steve Howat 17 June 2003, 13:32 Here we go again, the same old same old . There are good and bad bikers, there are good and bad drivers. Nothing you or I can do about that, we either choose to live with it or suffer the consequences whatever they may be (probably prison for Morgan). I'm not a particularly patient driver but I've never had a problem with a biker. As a biker I'm a bit more patient (I enjoy my life as it is) and I've never had any agro from a car driver. I do make good progress on my bike so the opportunities are there to pi55 of car drivers, but I don't.
These topics are usually posted by people who encourage agro but think they're innocent and are usually supported by people who encourage agro and think they're innocent and then offer some kind of "just knock em on the floor" useless advice. To say that most bikes want to fight you or race you just proves that point I think. Incidently, If I do try to 'race' on my bike I'll only race bikes as it's a waste of time trying to goad cars IMHO.
Roll on the next all bikers are twats topic
maniac morgan 17 June 2003, 14:39 nitro rev
point taken about the addy thx
loser is summat ive never been called before, i dot think i am, when a biker feels the need to give me the bird for the car i drive i dont think its on ,
if you read my post" i WISH i was in a van", but bikers know, piss a man in a van off and youll suffer the concequences , call a scooby driver a **** and hes hardly going to get out of his pride and joy, probably which has just been washed and polished to sort the twat(imo)out or risk damaging his car bumping him off his bike,
in all honesty i wouldnt bump a biker off what ever but doesnt mean some dont deserve it, and reactions like i have encounted i beleive they should be given a little instruction in common curtesy, if they wanna race get on the country lanes or better a track, but not in suburban areas where kiddies play and main towns
where peolple can get serious injuries cos of stupidity.
do you think its reasonable to label someone a dickhead and a loser for not accepting abuse for NOT racing with these idiots.
as issentially that is what you are saying in your post
morgan :)
ps kick my ass , i think not .
NotoriousREV 17 June 2003, 14:53 My labelling of you has nothing to do with racing or not, it is your threat to run someone over for giving you a hand gesture, pure and simple. In your last reply you even say that some people "deserve" to be run over. Would you like to tell that to someone who has had a loved one knocked off a bike and killed, for example me, the starter of this thread and many other bikers?
I can understand your annoyance, but to threaten to kill or seriously injure someone who gives you the "Gareth Hunt" (whether a serious threat or not) shows a dubious personality trait.
I'll try not to comment again on this thread, but for the record, seriously, I really, really would kick your ass :p
maniac morgan 17 June 2003, 17:54 i am sure we will agree to differ on this subject,
anytime you wish to come kick my ass you know my addy from earlier, or are you a keyboard hero as you seem to easily brand people, earlier comments about my origins are unfounded i come from miners stock i think i can handle myself ok and do not need to be afraid of anybody who knocks on my door, this will be my last post on this subject as a said before thinking and doing is a long way apart and i dont ever think you have the perseption to understand the meaning of my original post, if you require agro come see me, if not continue with you posts and have a last unimportant word,
i am trully sorry for anyone who has lost in bike accidents, i have limited experiance of this , my uncle broke his back when a car pulled out on him,he is now perminently on wheels, i still dont think i should have to turn the other cheek when the tosser element who ride bikes try to goad scooby drivers into races and agro, i assume from your tone you are looking to at least defend these actions if not condone them, i think we will differ on our opinions but to be honest i couldnt give a sh!t what you think and am sure the feeling is recipricated.
morgan
Sheepsplitter 17 June 2003, 22:20 I always find it amusing when someone comes onto Scoobynet and feels it necessary to threaten violence in order to make a point.
How very childish and immature, it must be a small penis thing!
Rich and Mini 17 June 2003, 23:07 I've never had a problem from bikers either?? Quite the opposite! I'm always in my mirrors, so see them coming from a fair way back, and have ample time to move over or get out their way. (Not just 'coz I love the noise they make as they come past either! :D). 90% of them put their left hand up to say thankyou!
I must live in a good rider area!
Rich :)
mutant_matt 18 June 2003, 08:25 I can't remember ever having a problem with a Biker on the roads when in my car either. I see plenty of Bikers whilst both riding and driving I think are crap/dangerous/stupid who are heading for a nasty accident though. But of course, I also see plenty who are good riders, safe and curteous to other road users.
Keep it civil please guys as I don't want to have to lock/delete this thread as I think it is a valuable discussion.
Cheers,
Matt :)
I'm goin to kick everyone's arse (at the same time!!!) whilst havin me dinner BECAUSE I ride a Honda Melody.
Good night
Secret Squirrel 19 June 2003, 07:25 Guys guys, I knew it would be an emotive subject......... Bikers good and bad , some crazies just like behind Scoobie wheels. Think Leslie hit a nail saying the boys on two wheels can get startled by a car powering away, and yes, NotRev, every time a motorbikelist goes past me shaking his head or banging the roof (really don't appreciate that one)I evaluate what might of caused his ire. Yep, I've had to own up to the, whoops, didn't spot him coming up the outside in black leathers in the rain with no light on......no, that's unfair, strike that....... he was just going rather faster than I judged.......but generally I feel it's because I've trodden on his turf of maximising opportunities to overtake etc
Oh well, will be in the sticks today in the firms's Mondeo so can see how that changes things
BTW, did y'all get onto the last Bank Holiday bikers meet at Hastings? Got caught up in it on the A21 and enjoyed seeing all those great machines. Most behaved themselves but the sheer number made for a Scooby sandwich most of the way on the M25 and the experience of being overtaken on both sides simulataneously by bikes while in the outside lane was.....interesting!
Keep it real
SS
Peanuts 19 June 2003, 07:52 maniac said i also get abuse from bikes genrally as i will not race em off the lights
abuse for not racing, b8llocks you do.
have a look at your driving, do you sub conciously occupy a particular section of your lane? do you, do you many things, but for not racing, my ar5e, your holy-er than thou attitude smacks of sanctimonious bullsh`t...LMFAO at you! look at me I dont race, so what....
I ride bikes, and occaisionally quickly I might add, and to be honest you wouldnt get a bloody look in at the light-change-drag-strip-challange.
I also drive a Scooby, pull in nearside and 90% get a thumbs up, are you missing the point of the gesture, it can be hard to move your fingers delicately while wearing tough leather/carbon/steel
reinforced gloves...
of course there are good and nad bikers/scooby drivers/bakers/candlestick makers etc. fact of life, but its odd that they all seem to be following you, maybe, just maybe you pulled a manouvre unwittingly one day and you have been remembered but you just dont remember its the same biker having a go at you...
NEVER have I had the kind of abuse you speak of, remember that we often ride out in groups and talk to each other so people would soon get to hear of such instances, and as yet, none.
Do you ride a bike? do you know what real vulnerability feels like? yes its our choice, but we do try to swing the odds on the side of safety.
Sec. Squirrell, sorry to hear about your loss.
rant over...
Andy.
FWIW, anyone who taps a biker deserves to be followed home by the local *hells-angels* and have all adult males in the household kicked to a bloody pulp within an inch of their lives... in-excusable.
