i know they are nearly gone now but on monday a good friend of mine took his blade in for new rubber, they supplied and fitted the tyres at a good price and he left a happy man.
on tuesday he took the bike in to robinsons of rochdale for a service and the nut holding the back wheel on was loose enough to be undone by hand, a bit scary to say the least.
maybe the mechanics have lost interest because they have been treated so unfairly by there employer but this mistake could have cost me a friend, so if you get new tyres put on check your nuts!
Friend had this happen at an independant tyre dealer on his R6. Spotted it when cleaning the bike after riding around to scrub in the new tyre
Apparently the bike is supposed to be checked over by a second man to make sure verything is tight. Not very re-assuring though......
I had similar happen on my Duke - went for a blast, went round a r'bout and thought 'hmm, feels a wee bit funny', rode on a few miles with a nagging in the back of my mind that all wasn't quite well.
Stopped, lifted the bike on the side stand and discovered the wheel nut was loose - obviously I had no appropriate tools with me so I rode slowly towards home until I found a garage that tightened it up.
Another tip might be, following a tyre replacement to remove the wheel nut at home and replace + tighten, having firstly applied some locktite ? I use this for many nuts and bolts -it doesn't make removal more difficult but prevents then damn things loosening themselves and falling off !

With the amount of torque you are supposed to put into the axle nuts, you really shouldn't need any loctite!!! Besides, most moderen bikes use a large nylock nut these days don't they?
Matt :)
My Duke (900SL) doesn't have a nylock nut but that might be a good idea. Also I'm pretty certain that I torqued up the wheel nut pretty tight but it still came loose but that may well have just been due to it being insufficiently tight. Once I got home I thought that a bit of locktite was just some extra security.
