Thinking of getting a bike, the traffic is really pissing me off at the moment. I'd like one for off road use to.

Anyone any suggestions.. looking at something like Suzuki Rmx 250.

Had a go on a KTM 620 4 Stroke the other day.. wouldn't mind one.. but it's a bit big n heavy, as i'm not the biggest of blokes :D

Suzuki DRZ400 might be a good compromise...or if you want something a bit more 'committed' on the dirt, then I'd go for a Honda XR400

Another vote here for the XR 400, I raced one in the british rounds of the enduro championship in '98 and after having a succession of WR 400s and 426s I am back to having an XR, as I don't race anymore the XR is a superb trail bike, will go on forever and I can ride it to work. It really is a good compromise.

You should stick to a 4 stroke for sure

I rode RMX's for towards 5 years in enduros and although they where excellant off roaders they are not brilliant on the road

Dont think you will go far wrong with a 400 - 450 4 stroke

or possibly a CCM

As above for road use....

If its just off road/Green lanes etc....... :)

KX250... cheap 2 stroke (£600 - £1500) , simple, reliable and so much fun to begin with.....

I just bought a bike for arsing around on , went out on it yesterday for the first time , I got a KTM 200 exe which is road legal , it's T reg and bought it for £1600 , am I aching today or what:D got a sore butt and my arms are aching but what a blast , I only fell off it a few times aswell . We got loads of fantastic forests around us so we are spoilt in that department . we were out on them all day and had real good fun , not quite as much fun as the rally car but its a close second , Can't wait for this weekend..
Cheers Ian

Its got to be a Yam DT125R, no fireball on the road, but terrific off it, light and easy to master, and plenty powerful enough for a learner. Also they can be bought for a pittance, and can always be sold if you decide that riding off road is not really your thing.
