Question

I have a laptop which the kids use for watching DVD while we are travelling in the motorhome. Problem is, the speakers are crap. I've tried a set of amplified (240v) speakers using and inverter. This worked OK for about 30 seconds and then blew the fuse. Is there a simple way i can install a set of car speakers and feed them from the laptop?

What head unit do you have?

Best way of doing it is to run an audio cable from your laptop to an auxiliary input on your head unit, which will then reproduce everything through your stereo.

If you only want sounds in the back, then you can add a small amp to your setup, and use the laptop as input for the amp. You can then use the amp to run a pair of speakers in the doors/parcel shelf depending on model year. Disadvantage is that the speakers would be disconnected from your car stereo so when you're not playing the laptop you wouldn't get any sound.

You can get round this by adding a few relays to switch the speakers between car stereo and amp.

If you want a hand, or more info, let me know otherwise I could spout forever

Cheers,
Nick.
