Ok guys

really fancy a trip to the GFOS this year, anyone been and want to share experiences? Is it just enough to buy an admission ticket or do you need to get grandstand tickets? Thinking of going for the weekend, Also can you camp there or is there accomodation on site?

Cheers

Gary

I went a couple of years ago - we bought Grandstand tickets but TBH only sat there for about an hour. Unless you're in the top corporate grandstands near the first bend they're not that great - you can get just as good a view anywhere else. The only benefit we could see for the grandstand was if it hoses it down.

Leave early on the second day - traffic out is a nightmare (we left just before the red arrows arrived - you get to watch them from the traffic jam anyway!)

Accommodation was the hardest thing - we managed to get in a b&b eventually about 10 miles away but not easy.

Have fun!

Was going to start a thread on this. A sort of Scoobynet outing to Goodwood.

Gone the last 3 yrs running. Each time on Saturday (I think is best day). Don't need a grandstand seat. Absolutely awesome day out and I wouldn't miss it for anything - Fabulous.

Last years Toyota Celica (800 bhp) pike peak version was stunning to watch.

I drive down from Nottingham - its a long drive but at that time in the morning only takes a few hours

Fantastic day out - one of the highlights of the year if you are a petrolhead. I've been going for the last 5 years and I wouldn't miss it.

Sal and I are booked up again for this year. Be advised though, you are leaving it late. Phone them up, rather than go through the website. Grandstand tickets are running out fast. All the popular ones opposite Goodwood House sold out long ago. You may still get some on Pheasantry Grandstand (that's where we are).

To be honest, grandstand seats aren't essential and they do have new viewing banking along Pheasantry Hill - which has always been a good place to view the cars, but in the past it has been restricted by the number of straw bails - with the new banking in place it shouldn't be a problem.

There is camping - but again it gets booked up early, as do all the local hotels.

Get there early and take time to go round the paddock area - you'll never get a better chance to get closer to the cars.

Details at the Goodwood website (http://www.goodwood.co.uk/) - have a look at the interactive map of the hill for more information.

Personally I would say that if your planning o go on the Sat or Sun then a grandstand ticket is a must especially if your a little short arse like me. There are just so many people trying to view that it gets difficult to see much unless you find a spot early and park your arse there for the day.

Tickets for grandstands are just about sold out for the weekend now but you may be lucky if ou ring them directly.

A friday stand ticket is good as you can roam around all of the stands with this.

All in ll its a fantastic weekend thats worth going to.

Been the last two years and will be going again this year.

I don't think that being in a grandstand is essential. Last year I was in the startline grandstand and ou don't see much from there. There is one grandstand that is on a bend with a view of a big screen, but probably sold out.

But if it is raining....

Goodwood have stated that 7 F1 teams will be appearing at the FoS including Ferrari.

Three works rally teams will also be there as will this years Le Mans winner fresh from the race.

For anyone who was there 2 years ago Bob Riggle will be returning to do some wheelies in is 1100Bhp Barracuda.

Goodwood Festival of Speed is a good day out, if you have never been it is worth going. I am pretty fortunate as I only live about 15 mins away and I get in for nothing as my dad is a marshall and my m8's sister works for Lord March. There are plenty of camp sites around, but no camping on the grounds of Goodwood. Goodwood is in Chichester, so if you do a search of campsites you should get in, make sure there is a bar :), otherwise search for campsites in Bognor Regis which is nearby.

You will probably be wasting your money getting a grandstand ticket, there is so much to look at and so much going on that you won't want to be in one place for too long.

If your going for the weekend then I would advise to get a g/stabd ticket otherwise your legs will drop off from all the walking that you do.

Go for the whole weekend.
Friday is a brilliant day as most of the peeps are there plus nearly all the cars and you can get around easier, cos this event is getting very popular!
Have only missed one since since the beginning, am staying at Amberley Castle this year, anyone been there?.
