I've just ordered the DAB add on unit for my Pioneer head unit, got it cheap somewhere.

Anyway, it comes with one of those little aerials, does anyone know if i'll get away with hiding this on teh rear shelf in side the car or whether i'll have to stick it outside, its really ugly so I dont really want to put it outside unless I really have to

I have mine on the rear screen. You could try it inside but at times reception is so bad, even with the aerial outside, that I would stick with the recommended installation. Some have had better results with a new aerial on the roof rather than on the rear screen.

reception is bad?? Thought DAB reception was supposed to be great?

when the reception is good the sound quality blows FM away. It doesn't crackle or hiss, but if the signal gets bad (between buildings for example) it breaks up and can disappear. Out of town it is usually very good.

Wouldn't go back to FM though.

I'm using mainly around the M25 and through the Herts country side so looks like i'll be fine ;) Anything I should be looking forward too apart from cleaner signal? are there any extra features?

loads more stations (specialist)
song and artist display (from most stations)

not used many of the other featers such as traffic, news and weather. But the tech is in its infancy and there is more to come I'm sure.

Interested to hear how you get on with your Pioneer unit as I have a Blaupunkt Woodstock, which I think is excellent.

Hmm, I have to go against the trend here. Every DAB station I've listened too sounds worse in most respects than its FM equivalent. They've tried to cram too many channels in and compressed the sound far too much IMHO

I've just fitted the pioneer one myself....I found the best place for the antenna was behind the rear bumper, there are two grommets, one each side.
Remove one of these and fit the antenna through it. Eh voila, one DAB fitted, no unsightly antennas and NO holes drilled in the bodywork, works for me :)

Well I've got the unit and at work in Herts I got just one ensemble (group) of channels and they were all buggy, when I got home I rigged up a earthing loop from the base of the aerial to a good earthing point on the car, i'm assuming it needed this since it is desgned to be mounted on the car, now the aerial is floating around the parcel shelf area, i'll relocate it to the bumper area on the weekend and see what happens
