View Full Version : Painting Garage Floor on top of Self-Leveling Compound

Title says it all really, I've recently had a new garage built and told the builder that I wanted a reasonably smooth surface as I was going to paint the floor.

I was away for a couple of days last week whilst he was finishing off and I came back to find a beautifully smooth surface - because he'd put self levelling compound down!

My understanding is that you can't use normal garage floor paint on top of this stuff.

Any ideas?

your thoughts are right!

Might might get away with it if you acid etch it and prime it, but that's purely a guess. My International "gaarage floor paint" (does exactly...) says no to self levelling compound, also no to concrete hardner too.

Cheers Paul,

I think some of the (expensive) epoxy finishes may be OK, I'm waiting a reply from a supplier to confirm this.

Good job i'm getting some expensive epoxy paint/screed for my new garage floor, buckshee! Its from a new plant we're building at that well known nuclear place up here in Cumbria;) Costs £500 for 10litres! Sticks to anything though and doesn't mark...

My dad has that epoxy stuff on his garage/workshop floor, it's very good, very tough too.
