Question

As in the title, is there any way of doing it. I am looking for a double din from Japn. I have searched the forum and there is talk of changing the frequency on the units, but nobody says how.

Any ideas?

You need a frequency shifter, or band expander. Available from most on-line stores...

The only thing is that you have to add 8 or something...
I.e. if you want to listen to a Radio 100 you have to choose 108.
Somebody correct me if this is wrong...

it's just as Ramon says, too. The display will say 100 and you'll actually be listening to 108, or whatever the conversion is

DOes it let RDS still work, becasue then it would not matter so much, as long as the station name came up?

No.

If you're really using the radio quite a bit, you'd be better off getting a head unit designed to work in Europe...

Exactly, if you're listening to Radio often, better buy one in Europe, if you want a fancy one that has more features than any European unit and at half the price, get a Japanese one.

AFAIK, RDS doesn't work at all on Japanese radios. That means they don't have RDS over there (wouldn't need it as every 2nd person has a super-hyper nav unit with tons of features in their car, RDS is too much stone age).
Also, the station name does not show up. On my unit (as I said in my email, I get one single station over here in Lux) I do not get the station name, when choosing the same station in my wife's car Kenwood unit I see the station name of that channel...

So frustrating as there are no good double din units out here. I wish there was one that would play MP3's

Well if it's for MP3, that's another story as almost ALL japanese units play MP3 as standard....

Again, you have to make a compromise between cool design, and many formats (CD, Minidisc, MP3) in one unit or listening to Radio....which can easily be done by fitting an FM expander, hence you loose the RDS function, but do you really need that??
