View Full Version : WRC TV rights matrix 21 February 2001, 01:53 And when Channel 4 take over no more Mark James (hip hip etc) Hello Mark Mike jones simon_prickett 21 February 2001, 10:23 Channel 4 have now got the WRC rights from the BBC, beginning next year... so, hopefully it'll get better than the odd 30 second slot on Top Gear, and a 25 minute program around midnight occasionally. Simon. aar 21 February 2001, 10:55 ....hope you enjoy your wait until next year then. Meanwhile, everyone else is watching 30 minute reports on Grandstand. Good filming, reporting and production - and no Tony Mason either!! Kev 21 February 2001, 12:22 I have to agree, The Granstand 30 minute show is well worth the wait ..... it's just a shame they could'nt do a nightly report like eurosport during the event. I personly watch what I can every night of an event on eurosport then make sure I watch the 1 hour special that follows on the Monday after the event which is a tad better than Grandstand ( 'cause it's shown straight after to start with ) and seems to have more in-car footage which I enjoy .... but then thats my humble opinion ! The only thing I would say about eurosport is #rant mode on# why don't they keep to the advertised times http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/mad.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/mad.gif #rant mode off# K DaveD 21 February 2001, 21:02 >Sceptic mode ON< Lets hope we get more than 20 minutes WRC padded with 10 mins of adverts around it. >Sceptic mode OFF< IWatkins 22 February 2001, 00:41 Well if CH4's coverage of the British Championship is anything to go by, it will be good. Cheers Ian simon_prickett 22 February 2001, 10:22 What I really meant was that I hope C4 do with it what they've done with other sports like Italian Football and cover more than just the rallying, more like the whole spectacle etc. Haven't seen recent BBC coverage, used Eurosport more recently... I got very fed up with the BBC coverage some time ago and gave up on it, maybe worth a second look now then. RobMac 22 February 2001, 11:42 Direct from the horses mouth... The BBC will now do everything in it's power to sour the coverage of WRC for the rest of the year so that Ch4 struggle next year... This is from someone senior within the rallying programme makers at the BBC... We not have much WRC on the telly, but it's going to get worse until next year. Dave P 22 February 2001, 14:45 just hope C4 don't do with it what they have with the Tour de France last year. Midnight slots etc etc Dave IWatkins 22 February 2001, 15:17 Well according to Motoring News this week, CH4 plan something like 3.5 hours coverage per rally and also plan to cover some of the stuff live too. Details are to be decided. Cheers Ian 555 BOY 24 February 2001, 21:16 I read a good article in the Sunday Express the other week, basically the whole Duubywhatsit is being run by the infamous Dave Richards who is hoping to promote Rallying on a par with F1,he made it clear that they are looking to capture armchair viewers, with such things as live stage footage & virtual reality participation by the viewers(i.e. You can race the same stage as Burns/McRae in the comfort of your living room). Thats twice that I have now heard him say that he basically wants no spectators on the stages of WRC events(threatening severe price rises as a deterent).Well I for one don't give a 5hit what he says cos theres nothing can beat the smell of a welsh forest on RAC week,so there ! Oh he also announced that as of this year there will be no more amateur drivers allowed on the Rally GB ! |
