What a good race, well done to the boys in red, pity Hakkinen had to go out with mechanicals, it would have been even better if he had caught Schumi, mind you catching is one thing, passing is quite another in F1, which as we all know is IF backwards - NO IT IS NOT 1F is F1 backwards - and here's some more b****cks spoken by the aged one :-

'Schumacher is now on lap 77 of this 73 lap race'

'Why doesn't Mazzacane pull over and let Hakkinen past' - (Mazzacane in 3rd place, Hakkinen in 4th)

If Murray Walker doesn't step down at the end of the Season and let Martin Brundle and James Allen get on with it.......

Angry of Preston !

Calmer now...

My wife says if I don't stop screaming at the TV and frightening the Baby, she'll ban F1.

Next race - Watch on ITV and listen on Radio 5 live - or I need a Murray filter.

I wonder what the American crowd thought of the F1. That infield looked a bit, well, rinky-dink to me. Not saying I could drive it or anything but it's a long way from the high-speed duelling on the banked track that they're used to.

The commentary of the part where Mika was racing with Mazzacane was classic. Murray totally wrong and Brundle calmly setting him right. Mind you, I think Mika thought the same thing as Murray... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

I agree about the infield, some of it was a bit too much like a Kart (not CART) circuit, mind you, it's better than the old days with the concrete tunnel through Phoenix (or Pheonix according to ITV!), and there was some overtaking to be had, Coulthard pulled a nice one against Delarosa.

I wonder if they do track days :-)

I am finding murray more and more anoying these days, which is a shame as he has done so much to help F1 prosper.

My ideal would be Martin Brundle and Ben Edwards, that would be a great combo. Get John Watson on the team and that would be a great package.

I am not keen on James Allen, he talks too much bollox, it's obvious he doesn't understand the techy stuff, i get embarased for him some times.

Louise is great for those dodgy moments when the drivers retire, great at dealing with peed off drivers and getting some sense out of them.

nooo John
Respectfully I have to disagree!

I used to hate Murray but I like him now.
Brundle is excellent. As is J Watson.

But Ben Edwards???? Isn't he the wee squirt that was on Eurosport - man he talked so much sh!te .....

I would have Brundle and J Watson!
I did like James Allen when he did it though I missed any lack of knowledge he alegdly hadn't got (english please, sp??)

Murray is getting a bit past it yep.
Ben Edwards still does the CART racing, and eurosport havnt covered the CART race because of the Olympics, so he probably was available.

I was pretty pissed with Coulthard myself, I think he was deliberately trying to take Schuey off, I know he was trying to hold him up, but I think he was after more than that, when I rewatched it in the cold of day, he was driving strange lines, not going as fast as he could. I think deliberately trying to get MS half along side to turn across him.
I know people will say hes not that stuiped, you can never guarantee whats going to happen if cars collide, but it was on the slower corners, where impacts wouldnt have been too high.....

Take F1 away from ITV, they are just pants at the race coverage, qualifying etc is better than BBC were, cos it gets a proper dedicated prog, but the race grrrrrr. I mean if you have to show adverts do it during yellow flags, pace cars etc, not when the race is about to go green again, or the pit stops are just about to take place. AND, we dont want to see those bloody graphics before and after the adverts, just show the adverts, and straight back to the action, at least Eurosport do that bit right.

Murray is a great character and would be missed if he left. However, Martin Brundle has to keep correcting him (he does it very tactfully though...) and he keeps coming up with quite boring stuff and repeating lists, which gets annoying (<I>"...and Salo has retired, and Mazzacane has retired, and Zonta has retired"</I> ad nauseum). I think they should have Brundle and someone else doing the commentating and have Murray doing "Murray meets", background stuff and maybe pre- and post-race comments.

The Mazzacane/Hakkinen thing was quite amusing.

Murray says that Hakkinen wants to go past as he is shaking his fist and Murray can't understand why he doesn't move over.

Brundle explains that Mazzacane is ahead of Hakkinen and is entitled to not allow him to pass.

Murray again says that Mazzacane hasn't moved over and he doesn't understand

Brundle again explains.

Murray says that he can't understand why there are no blue flags.

I know that it is hard to talk to fast and always get things right, but he is making more and more mistakes of late.

I thought it was a bit off how Coulthard got ahead of Schumacher due to an illegal start and then was allowed to hold Schumacher up for quite a few laps before he was pulled in to have his penalty. It was obvious from the footage that he was in the wrong so why did it take so long. This could so easily have messed everything up for Schumacher.

It would have been a real mess if Coulthard had taken Schumacher off.

The Ferrari pitting scam when they convinced Jordan that Barrichello was going to pit and then wandered away was very amusing. I guess they're allowed to do that - I always used to wonder why they didn't do things like that before.

Anyway, 2 to go, and Schumacher 8 points in the lead.

Also Schumacher on 42 race wins and up to second in the all time standings (although he has a much better win/race average than the leader - Alain Prost). I ca\n't see Schumacher not ending up on top of that particular list.

Go Ferrari... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Murry's fine by me, his mistakes help brighten up the race - so much enthusiasm too. Come on admit it, feels cool to know more than the commentator !! Brundle is excellent and a great foil for Murry in the same way as James Hunt used to be.
Tony Jardine and Jim Rosenthal are irritating f**kers IMHO.

Personally, I wouldn't have been surprised if Coulthard had a jump start in his race strategy. Either way if he got ahead of Schumacher there was definately going to be some serious blocking going on. All within the rules but obviously unsporting (mind you, Schumi hasn't got a clear record in that department).

Neil - Schumacher fan !

3 minutes into the race I let out an involuntary sigh.

The wife calls out from the other room, "Is Murray Walker annoying you again dear?"

Sure Shuey will beat Prost's record, but he doesn't have the likes of Senna, Lauda, Mansell and Piquet all in competetive cars to compete against.
Great driver sure... but...

Lancat - I agree in that Schuey doesn't have great competition like the 'old days'. Senna was probably my all time favourite driver and I was pretty saddened when he died. It would be nice to have some proper competition for Schuey as usually he loses when his car breaks, his car hits something, someone else's car is mechanically better, the Ferrari pit crew cock something up and the other teams do well in strategy. Basically he doesn't often lose when it comes to a fair fight with the other drivers and it would be nice to have some others of his calibre for his to drive against.

IMHO of course.

I still remember Skinner and Badliel saying that Jim Rosenthal looked like Satan (and they showed a medieval woodcut of him). Ever since then, I see that woodcut every time he appear on TV.

LOL - I forgot the satan thing. Brilliant.

We have hopes...

Jacques is the real star of today if Honda can give him a decent car. Montoya in a quick BMW and Button in a quick Renault to help the McLaren boys out. Next year could be good... or am I just fooling myself http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Jacques Villneuve is an excellent driver (uh oh I sound like Dustin Hoffman in Rainman now).

I've been waiting for him to get a better car (than the BAR one) for a while.

He'll give Schuey a run for his money.

Also Schuey Jr. is coming along nicely.

About the question if the US guys like the F1.
They do! i was there and everyone i spoke loved it.They like the sound the cars make and also the late braking at the end of the straight (where I was)amazed them.
Also the real F1 fans with painted faces and big banners is something new for them.
The first six corners of the circuit are great, only the last part before they come onto the straight again are more like a go -kart circuit ,not for F1 cars.
We saw a great race there on a great circuit.
I hope Jenson Button will grow and grow ,he is a very talented guy I think.
But Ayrton Senna can never be replaced , I still feel sad after all those years ,what a great driver and a great man he was.
Bye Chris
