View Full Version : C'Mon DC my son .....
Dave T-S 08 September 2000, 00:54 It's Shumey for me!! Must be time his luck changed. 1-2 for Ferrari and the McLaren boys take each other out on the very last lap.
Perfetto! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif
Kev 08 September 2000, 08:44 Just thought I'd give DC a cheer for the GP this weekend http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif
I'll miss both qualifying and the race as I'm off with the Midland boys camping in Wales .... must want my bumps testing http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

NATH 09 September 2000, 11:42 Hmmmmmmmm, i'd like to see D.C. do well and win it, but i guess he'll have his chance next season and hopefully improve. It'd be nice to see a Brit with the title again.

Chris L 09 September 2000, 14:45 Well that didn't work did it http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
Unless the boys from Woking pull their finger out, I think a certain Italian team might just be disappearing off into the distance....
Chris
DavidRB 11 September 2000, 10:32 Stop the Italian GP when a Ferrari is in the lead? Do me a favour!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif
Seriously, a good drive by Schumacher (cough! spit!), he had the legs of the field today. Nice to see Verstappen & Zonta getting a chance to shine in front of the cameras.
Poor old Jensen Button, imagine doing nearly 10 laps behind the safety car and then crashing off just as the lights go green! Not sure of the rules when the safety car pulls in, but the Indycar drivers do exactly the same thing.
Commiserations also to the family & friends of the Fire Marshall killed by a flying wheel in the 1st lap accident. Here's hoping that we don't get another Senna court case.
IWatkins 11 September 2000, 11:33 Hi All,
Was a good race but marred by the death of the fire marshall. Debris fence's will be on the increase, I'm sure.
Zonta really impressed me, regardless of his fuel load at the time.
The Button incident was just down to inexperience I think. Easy to do, two pedals to choose from and got the wrong one http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
Indy should be fun.
Cheers
Ian
schuey 11 September 2000, 12:34 Arse!
[This message has been edited by schuey (edited 11 September 2000).]
schuey 11 September 2000, 12:44 Can't believe they did not throw a red flag after the carnage at the second chicane. Some one must be looking out for DC this year. Survives a plane crash and a flying Arrows. These things come in threes. The wall at Indy next?
Schuey wins at Monza, "fantastic" as Murray would say. Race back on.
Did you see how emotional he was at the after race speach. That should earn a few brownie points.
All we need now is for Mika (nice touch at the speach asking for a break ) to have a DNF.
Schuey for world champ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
swa 12 September 2000, 14:36 Button incident put down to experience!
Sorry I don't agree, I was surprised that there wasn't another pile up.
The kraut faced tossser should have the win taken off for that sh$te he pulled on the last SC lap.
HHF is still trying to screw DC since the qualifying in SPA.
Schuy may be good but he is also an arrogant arse on the track - re Button incident.
I reckon Button will be W. Champ in 4 years, and I don't normally ever support people from Englandshire very often (ever).
I was at SPA and Button really was on it. I was very impressed. He must have some Celtic blood in him I think.
Thats after DC's won the 2001, 2002 and 2003 world champs that is... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif
DC seems to be inheriting Herberts bad luck.
What a year, after Monza I guess hes just glad to be alive.
I simply cannot believe that the ARSES did not stop the race, when the medics were trying to save a guys life at the side of the track. To have 16 cars going past every 1min 45 or so creating all that noise whilst trying to work on a guy is crazy in my view.
They are still dammed noisy even behind the safety car.
I hope they don't mess with the regulations to make the cars 'safer' or some bs. But I hope they do build cages for the marshals to stand in so they can still see but are safe from debris.
DC / Irvine / TW / Stewart fan

jbryant 12 September 2000, 14:40 What's the point in having a safety car if the person directly behind is driving like Schumacher was. Yes I know that this would have enabled him to get a push at the start with a bit more space to keep his lead, but surely the idea of the safety car is to regulate the speed of the following traffic, thus avoiding accidents behind. So if Schumacher decides to stop 50 yards shy of the start line, does everyone else have to stop behind him? What a stupid rule.
Grrrrr.

IWatkins 12 September 2000, 15:42 I think you hit the nail on the head.
The race should have been stopped and not ran under SC for so many laps.
The SC is there to keep the lap speed down while marshalls etc. are working etc. The SC does not become the race leader. The current race leader still has control of the field.
If Shuey wants the pack to build up behind him, that is his choice. If he wants to leave a gap to the SC to give him a run at the start line, again, his choice. Under SC you are still racing, just that you cannot pass.
Look at Indy in the States, it is part of the racing tactic. If you are in the lead you want to be the first to be at full throttle as the SC peals off. If you are 2nd or 3rd etc. you need to try and read the situation and try to be on the throttle so that as you cross the start line you are just about to pass the cars in front.
Button mis-read the situation and floored it. He narrowly avoided taking Ralf S. out as well. Dumb move.
Cheers

Chris L 12 September 2000, 18:34 Spot on Ian.
Like it or not, Jenson's excursion onto the grass was due to inexperience. As Ian said, if you watch C.A.R.T in the States, it is standard practice to back the field up when it is under caution.
Tough break for him, but I bet he won't do it again.
Nice drive by MS, great shame about the fire marshall though - these guys are the unsung heros of F1, who put their lives on the line every fortnight.

You support a ger over your own very talented blood?
I cannot understand it.
MS is good, yes, but he is waaay over-rated.

Chris L 12 September 2000, 19:19 Swa
I think a lot of people put up with him because of the team he drives for. There are a lot people (myself included) who are Ferrari team fans. Even the Italians are warming to him..
As to MS being over-rated? I reckon only Mika comes close at the moment. Put them in identical cars and I know who would be quicker..
As a side note, I remember reading in a car mag recently that said Scotland has currently got four world class racing drivers (Coulthard, McRae, McNish and Francitti) - good point. Not many countries can claim that.
Chris
swa 12 September 2000, 20:07 Chris!
Ooops! I forgot that some peoples support is team based! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
DC is there with Mika and Michael. IMHO!

johnfelstead 12 September 2000, 20:50 FIA sporting regs extract re. safety car use...
Once behind the safety car, the race leader must keep within 5 car lengths of it (except under j) below) and all remaining cars must keep the formation as tight as possible.
j) When the clerk of the course calls in the safety car, it must extinguish all the revolving lights, this will be the signal to the drivers that it will be entering the pit lane at the end of that lap.
At this point the first car in line behind the safety car may dictate the pace and, if necessary, fall more than five car lengths behind it. As the safety car is approaching the pit entrance the yellow flags and SC boards at the observer's posts will be withdrawn and waved green flags will be displayed for one lap.
k) When the safety car has pulled off the circuit and the cars are approaching the Line, green lights will be shown. Overtaking remains strictly forbidden until the cars pass the green light at the Line unless a car slows with an obvious problem.
K is interesting, do you remember the line of cars waiting behind hakinen when his engine went down on power as the safety car came in!!
