Cool

Hi there,

Anyone ever owned a Mk1 MR2? I've had one for two years now (but with Scooby ultimately in mind for a long time!) Looking to change after this summer before another winter of nasty sideways insurance scares....

Can anyone tell me how the old MR compares to a UK spec (98ish) Scooby?

Would be very interested to hear all your views!

Cheers,
Clett <cletterridge@hotmail.com>

I had a Mk 3 MR2 (my95) for 3 years, then got a scooby (my98 Turbo).

The MR2 is a really great car, but there is seriously no comparison.

The scoob is quicker, corners better (the best bit) and is a better car.

People say that scoobs are reliable (but so was the toyota).

The only thing that the MR2 was better at was the interior quality and finish, far better than the scooby, but I guess there is always a trade off.

As for insurence, it was only a few pounds more a year, so not so bad.

If you have the chance then go for it.

YES!!! ME!!!

I had a D plate Mk1 MR2 for 6 Years.

The MR2 Mk1 is a fine car (as you know), but has very different characteristics to the Scooby.

I may not be popular when I say this but I find the scooby slightly less rewarding to drive than the MR2!. The Scooby makes VERY rapid progress on any road in any weather conditions, where as the MR2 takes more concentraiton and driving. Its very much like the Scooby v Elise thing. They cost the same, have simialar performence on paper, but deliver the experience in totally differnet ways.

IF you want to do a lot of miles, quickly, in comfort then the Scooby is A1. If you want a rewarding drive for a weekend down some lanes then the MR2 is more Involving.

I am looking to get an elise as I want the "rewarding" drive back, however I am now doing a lot less miles. The scooby is fantastic for making overtaking spaces where the MR2 would have to wait for a bigger gap.

In summary they are both good, but in differnet ways. I am glad I have tried the road flattening experience that is the Scooby, but I look forward to the driver involvement that you get from a "Sports car" as opposed to a "performence car"

Doesent really help, but have fun whatever you choose!
