Had a "service" carried out, the bloke did this in about 10 mins (£70), can you service a boiler this quick or should I continue to hold onto the payment & ask that it's done again ?

View Full Version : Gas Boiler servicing Dunk 27 January 2003, 15:41 Had a "service" carried out, the bloke did this in about 10 mins (£70), can you service a boiler this quick or should I continue to hold onto the payment & ask that it's done again ? D Mog 27 January 2003, 18:30 We normally charge £45+vat for a gas service, which when stripping down the burner and brushing/vac the heat exchanger is going to take a minimum 30mins. It sounds like the old Gas Board trick of sticking a flue gas tester in and checking the different levels and saying £70 please.Bear in mind that servicing and just checking flue gas levels are two different items and should be made clear before any work is carried out. Mog Dunk 27 January 2003, 18:42 Thanks Mog, I'm sure I specified a service, I'll check the description on their invoice ce soir. D scooby nutter 28 January 2003, 21:19 definatly sounds like a Gas board job.stick a probe in the flue and "its ok missus,£70 please!!" usually takes me 1hour for a boiler service although some can be done quicker or longer depending on the type of boiler.eg back boiler you have to do the fire also so usually 1and a half hours for one of those. we charge £40 for a boiler service regardless of type,conventional/back boiler +fire/combi etc. this involves stripping burner out, brushing heat exchanger, check gas pressures, replace pilot injector, checking gas valve operation, check electrics, check flue pull etc etc,in fact loads of stuff to do when servicing a boiler! for £40 its a bargain!!!:) Duncan |
