Came downstairs at 7am this morning, to find the fridge had stopped working.
Light was on, but everything was warm, and the freezer stuff has started to defrost (just been shopping, so £100 worth of stuff images/smilies/mad.gif ).
Given the compressor a few hits now, and it seems to have fired up again. Anyone any ideas what might be wrong with it?
Also, the fridge space is limited, and ideally we need one which is 1450mm high by 800mm wide - anyone know if they do such a fridge?

OK Fridge been working for all of yesterday, but now it has stopped making its noise again, and I fear it may pack up later on.
Anyone got a clue as to how they work - where is the thermostat and could it be that?
Any websites with tips?

The thermostat on mine packed up a while back. It's usually in behind the temperature control dial.
I called someone out to replace it - cost me about £50 all in. You should be able to just source the thermostat if you think you are up to replacing it yourself. Didn't seem to difficult judging by the length of time the repair guy worked on my fridge - but then again maybe he just had years of training and experience ;)

Mine packed in last Saturday, exactly the same symptoms, light on but warm milk YUCK.
So I checked out the online quotes for a repair in Surrey, circa £90 callout + parts, sod that mate !!
I cheched out the Hotpoint website, looked up my fridge and had a look to see what spares were available, and you can only buy a thermostat for it so I thought I can do that.
Popped out the old thermostat (only 3 wires) and shorted the two switch wires and hey presto it sparked into life, so for a temporary fix I left them shorted and put the fridge onto a wall timer socket.
Then ordered the new thermostat online from Hotpoint, £18 inc delivery and 3 days later its fitted and working.
Nothing too it mate, good luck...
