Just been looking at what to get and I quite fancy one of the monster trailies - Varadero, Vstrom or Tdm900. I intend to do a bit of commuting into London, the odd backroad blast and occasional 2 hr motorway journey.

Am I on the wrong track ? Which one is best ? Any experiences on these bikes ?

Personally I didnt like the look of the Tdm900, and the seat was uncomfortable. The other 2 i cant split until I get a chance to ride them.

Alternatively I can get a 2 year old non-vtec VFR800 for the same price - is this a better option ?

Any views appreciated.

Have you considered one of the big BMW trailies (that one that looks like it has a squint). I've seena few of those making rapid progress down the backlanes while my Gixxer's suspension ties itself in knots.

Get an R1 and put some cow horns on it or some upside down ace bars."Sorted"http://216.40.249.192/mysmilies/contrib/ruinkai/biglaugha.gif

Davy1 - thanks but R1 would stretch my limited abilities on the bike.

Aprilia Tuono looks great - but just not sure i want a semi-naked bike again.
