Does anyone know what clearances are needed for ventilation around the flue on the external face of house , as I have started to build a leanto garage ..... Would like to know the nearest I can roof above the flue really, and would it matter that much if it was well ventilated??

Any advice please

Nate.

Nate..I wouldn't really recomend building any structure over a boiler flue, however a openended car port can sometimes be acceptable. If your boiler is balanced flued as opposed to fan flue it is going to be difficult with the larger clearance dimensions involved, the best bet would be to obtain the manufacturers installation instructions for your boiler to see the relevant dimensions.

Mog,

The flue is approx 8" above the garage door opening height and about 2' in from the door itself .... If I was to have louvred or vented cladding above the garage door and the same the other end, thus causing a through draught ... Do you think that would be acceptable ?

Thanks in advance

Nate

ps , will try and find installation instructions

Nate..It is difficult to envisage exactly what you mean but if you intend to enclose the flue within the garage and ventilate at either end to create a "through" draught then this is NOT acceptable. A flue has to discharge in to the open atmosphere, a car port is probably the only structure allowed over a flue with both ends of the port open and even this is subject to the manufacturers dimensions. As stated before a natural draught balanced flue is going to be very difficult to place in these circumstances.

Thought this might be of interest, please note, the garage is not a garage, it's a car port!
