I'm looking at coming over the pond for the RAC this year, and have a few questions:
Where do you recommend I stay? Cardiff I would think, but maybe not...
How is it driving around for the event? Is it better to use public transport?
Tickets, what's the deal with the tickets? I know they changed the ticketing policies last year. How much is it going to cost me to attend the event?
And most importantly where are some fine places in the area to tilt back a few frosty beverages?
Sorry for so many questions, and a little early to be asking...but, better to get things sorted ahead of time, so that I can just sit around and enjoy myself better at the event. Thanks in advance for your responses. - -Mike

Stay in Cardiff but book early.
Public transport will not get you where you need to go. Hire a car, but it'll need cleaning before you take it back!

As far as tickets go, I went to the 2002 one and it cost £75 for a weekend pass BUT there are 2 of these, so you need to decide between an Event 1 pass or an Event 2 pass, they just get you into different stages but both included the super special stages in the arenas.
Definitley won't get anywhere on public transport! :D

I've stayed on the outskirts of Swansea for the past two years as it's close to the service park and much nearer the stages. Cardiff is a nice city to stay, but you'll have an extra hours drive each way to get to the action (apart from the super special).
Public transport is non-existant - you'll need to hire a car!
Remember that the rally is not cheap - £80 for a 3 day pass last year. Im off to the Monte next week, and I reckon it'll work out cheaper then Wales, including the flight and car hire!

If you want resonably priced accomodation, try one of the following chains. Rooms are basic but nice, clean with en-suite. Some have a pub right next door for food & drinks.
The ones around the rally will be full for that weekend, so best to decide plans early and get booked.

Just taken Chris' advice and booked early - the hotels really do fill up quickly. Booked a few nights at the Swansea Travel Inn - stayed there last year, its ok - not exactly the most picturesque spot around - backs onto a factory - but there is a pub next door, and there's a big Asda, a Kentuky and a Burger King all 2 mins walk away. It only takes a few mins to get onto the motorway also.
The Travel Lodge is in a prettier setting, backing onto woodland, but its part of a motorway service area, so there is only overpriced burger king to eat there.
The hotels further in Swansea are better - really nice 4* overlooking the marina (Marriott?) but the rooms go for full rate during the rally so are fairly pricey.
