I can take MY98 Turbo out of gear providing no throttle applied whilst driving, without depressing the clutch. Does this mean its on its way out (CLUTCH). eg if I was to drive downhill with no acceleration of without touching the clutch I can take it out of gear. IS THIS NORMAL! No other car, (V6 mondeo, Civic Type-R, Lancia Intergrale) have had has done or been able to do this, not that I tried much just coincidence that it happened the other day.

humm.. dont think so m8. I know I can take mine out with no Acc. on & this is just how the gearbox is (my old astra did it too!)
going down hill - not sure about that ! as the transmission is more loaded, coz of engine braking. will try it on the way home !

If the clutch was gone, youd be able to make it slip. try 4th gear, at about 3-4k rpm steady, then try booting it - preferably up a hill. if it slips, you'll see the revs rise & you wont go any faster !
(someone else might have a better idea of making it slip?)
(dont try a full-bore start - it WILL slip , or explode ! )

Nice one m8, if using engine braking it wont come out of gear but generally on the flat with minimal revs it will easily be knocked out of gear with slight push of gearstick. It wont slip in 4th or any gear really. However if I hold on handbrake and attemt to pull away it will slip with a degree of force, (only done once) as test.

 

If the engine speed and wheel speed match, then you can just pop it out of gear. I can actually change gear without the clutch, just by matching the revs. Goin up the box is a lot easier than changing downmind you.

Nothing to worry about, i always knock it out of gear when coasting to a halt ! I could do this in every car i have owned !
