Is anyone on here planning on attending this event?

Just printed some details on the website and there are options for Car Park passes in both Somerley Park, and "Rover Car Park" - does anyone have any ideas of which will be the best pass to get so as to see the best action on the day??

Planning to head down to Bournemouth Gardens first thing to see the start if that makes any difference...

Kelvin.

Hi Kelvin

I spectated on the event last year and will also be attending this year as well.

I went for the Forestry Rover pass (and will be doing so again this year) as it gives the most flexibility for moving around stages (not that I normally move around that much).

The Somerley pass gives access to the Somerley Stages (surprise surprise) and the rally show that takes place in the estate's grounds. Having not spectated on this stage I can only assume that the type of stage is similar to the stately home stages run a few years ago on the Network Q.

Looking at the web site the rally has the same stages as last year, so to give you an idea these are last years first car times:

08:18 - SS01 - Bournmouth 1
08:40 - SS02/03 - St Leonards 1 & 2
09:30 - Service 1
09:59 - SS04 - Stapehill
10:22 - SS05 - Ebblake 1
10:46 - SS06 - Mount Ararat 1
11:16 - SS07 - Somerley 1
11:54 - Service 2
12:42 - SS08/09 - St Leonards 3 & 4
13:16 - Service 3
13:45 - SS10 Uddens Water (re-run of SS04 with slight change to stage)
14:08 - SS11 - Ebblake 2
14:32 - SS12 - Mount Ararat 2
15:02 - SS13 - Somerley 2
15:40 - Service 4
16:28 - SS14/15 - St Leonards 5 & 6
17:16 - SS16 - Bournemouth

Last year I spectated at St Leonards 1 & 2 and Mount Ararat 1 & 2 (the Ebblake stage is not that far away if you want to move on between stage runs).

St Leonards is a difficult stage to spectate as it is run on military training grounds and the spectating area is limited and does get a little crowded (for a national rally anyway). This stage uses tarmac roads.

Mount Ararat is an excellent stage with a double junction that allows you see the cars twice on the stage though there are some other good viewing points if you enjoy the walk, this stage uses gravel.

If my memory serves me correctly the cars took around 2 hours to get through the stages, maybe a little less on the second run ;)

Hope his helps :D

Forgot to say a big thankyou to a P1 owner and his son, sorry don't know names but I think your son was called "Lee" or " Luke" I got talking to you at Mount Ararat and you gave me some advise on stages and the best places to stand, thanks to you I enjoyed 3 excellent stages !

It was also good to chat to another wagon owner (even if you do have a P1 for the weekends) :)

Cheers

It is not a wonder that the scooby over took the Evo, did you get to see the size of the driver?

Hats off to the guy for taking part but how he managed to get into, and probably more interestingly out of, the bucket seat I will never know.

Hopefully you should have some mail from me too.

Cheers

nigelward
24 February 2003, 22:05
He does now that he has sold it :D.

Rally Nutter
26 February 2003, 09:52
I though he had changed his mind about it, and was now keeping it. Not that it matters as his dad Harry, owns Sunseeker power boats anyway!

MarcusDodd
26 February 2003, 10:58
The car was actually X17 SRT, no idea whos car it used to be Im afraid. Same one we had last year though.

Just one point Rally Nutter my Dad Harry has never owned Sunseeker Powerboats, we as a Family USED to own Sunseeker Sales a distributor for Sunseeker until we sold the company last year.

Too much money, I wish, If I did I would be out rallying every opportunity. LOL

Regards

Marcus
