The Network subsidises the cost of the phone as they know they will get it back in the monthly payments. Phones without contracts are very expensive which is why there are very few *real* cheap phones without a contract.

Good luck - I've never managed a way round this problem...

Richard,

do you want to stay on the same contract/network? If so then ask your service provider what options are available for changing/upgrading the phone. For example, Orange let you upgrade for free after a certain period, or with a fee if earlier.

If you are in the first 12 months of a contract, you won't be able to cancel (and move provider) without a penalty anyway!

If the un-lock is GBP100, then why not buy a pay-as-you-go phone from the same provider (_lots_ of choice for one hundred quid) and swap the SIMS?

Let us know your current contract details, and future preferences, and maybe there is a solution.

Cool

Have Got A Nokia 3310, Bought It On Pay As You Go Last Week, Got It Unlocked This I Paid
£99.99 + £20 to get it unlocked.

My Contract Is Up ON First Of March So I Will Be Changing Phone. It's up for grabs if you can hold on a couple of weeks.

Also Anybody Reccomend Between The Nokia 9110 and Ericsson R380. These Are My 2 Possible Replacements

Sorry Richard!!! I would have prefered an auction on it!!!

I did promise to give my 8210 to my sisteer, but if you make me a realistic offer, it's yours!!! (rather than the £100 I've been offered!!)

Nokia 8210, SIM free, unlocked, 4 covers (Blue cover, carbon fibre cover, titanium sliding cover, black sliding cover), leather case, car charger, personal hands free kit, desktop charger, car hands free kit (plugs into lighter socker with speaker & amplifies standard microphone), holder for car (sticks to windscreen), boxed, manuals, etc.

That's everything for the desk, the car and on the move!!! Being a phone tart I needed it all!!!

Got a trick Nokia 6210 now!!!

Cheers
Andy
