I have recently taken delivery of a new MY02 Impreza WRX. I imported the car via jamjar.com from a dealer in Holland. It is to full UK right hand drive spec.

The car arrived at the Dutch Dealer in November 2002.

However, I have contacted a few dealers, to find out xactly what the servicing schedule is.

My owner's handbook states 1,000 miles, and then every 7,500 miles or 12 months.

Various dealers and Subaru UK have said anything from every 10,000 or 12 months to every 7,500 or 6 months!

Can anyone throw any light on the subject?

MY UK Spec MY02 (got it in Nov) says - first 1k miles, rest at 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 etc ...

Hello

As far as i am aware the 10k/12mnth service schedule is only on UK cars. This was done in order to make the whole life costs cheaper and more competitive to the fleet market and a decision IM took themselves not a Japan decision.

Scoobsouth is spot on.

This change was instigated by Subaru UK to reduce the ownership costs in the fleet running cost charts.

I haven't spoken to anyone that thinks this is a good idea.

I am still trying to find out if the warranty is now 3 years manufacturer, in which case UK cars may have to revert to FHI's recommendations of every 7500/6 months.

Persoanlly, my car gets "enjoyed" and I wouldn't dream of leaving it 10,000 between services.

If you want to keep your warranty you need to maintain it to the supply country's standards, so in your case it will be Holland service schedules.

So if your book says 1 000, 7 500 etc. then that's what you do. It may be the case that UK cars are 10 000 miles, but if you go to this you will invalidate your warranty. Some dealers will know this others won't.

Having seen the colour of my oil at 5 000 miles, I'm not sure I'd leave it in much longer than another 2 500 miles.

What Pete says doesnt suprise me - my mate in LA has just got an MY02 and the service interval on his is 3.5K!!!!

I will be doing my own oil at 5k intervals!

Thanks for all the reponses. I feel a lot less confused, and a lot happier.

Nigel H,

For the record my owner's handbook says 1k, and then 7.5k or 12 months. The Dutch Dealer also thought along these lines.

I agree with you that 10,000 is a long time for an oil change. My wife's Carisma is every 9,000 and the engine is nowhere near as complex!

Trumble,

Did you buy yours in the UK or was it bought in Europe?

UK Spec - UK Dealer - Service book says 10k - but I'll do oil at 5k intervals.

Hi STI MAN,

Very much so. Jen probably mentioned, I'm a novice Scooby owner but the more I drive it the more I like it!

My only regret is with a growing family I don't drive it often enough!

Looking forward to hitting the 1,000 mile landmark, so I can take it above 4,000 rpm!

STI MAN,

Yes I will be taking the car to CVC, it's my nearest dealer, there is no longer one in Swansea.

Jen has talked highly of them in the past, and I will certainly mention Jen's name.

Cheers.

You'll probably find that that's your best petrol consumption figure as well :(

:D

Are you going to take it to CVC for servicing, if so mention that you know Jen, she's notorious there.....;)
