God its a long time for me to be talking audio as I used to be an audiofile about 5 years ago, but a baby came along and now we get 'The Tumble Tots' soundtrack being played with extreme accuracy in the livingroom....but enough of that:

1 - I've got £600 to spend for a CD/RADIO/4/2SPEAKERS/INSTALLATION

2 - I would like to think either a multichanger or at least 3 changer in the unit intself.

3 - I listen to the radio at lot - so reception and easy of changing a plus point.

4 - I would like it all fitted and tested, including speakers in my 95 WRX 5 door - currenlty got a Kenwood unit (no CD changer)

5 - I've got a blitz induction and magnex backbox and things get very loud!!!


So - any local addresss from Rugby to Milton Keynes would be greatly appreciated and ideas about equipment?

?stupid quesion - any way of making the induction less obtrusive - sounds like mating whales on my dashboard?

Induction raw is great, but a nice cd player and speakers will cover it.

I would go for a pioneer in dash unit. Probably a cd player with external multiplay. You can get combos which save money for around 3-400 but I would stick to the separates as these give you the higher models.

Get a single disc head unit and aportion as much as you can to one pair of speakers (the fronts) this will save money and sound much better. If the kids complain you can turn on the rears until they are out of the car, then switch them down again. As an ex audiophile, you should now that two speakers is the only way for stereo reproduction.

Go for a single point source coax speaker, at most 200 ish pounds. Stick with specialist makes such as orion, or caliber. MB quart used to be great but since changing away from a paper cone they are no longer to my personal taste.

As an audiophile, you will appreciate the benefit of an audition, so ask ifyou can hear a comparable system in another customers car. Although this will never be perfect it is better than buying blind (or should that be deaf?).

A decent dealer will not mind such a request.

Dont be afraid to ask for a discount. If you spend around £600 you could ask them to throw in installation for free.

The job is actually a very easy one, so if you research it you could do it yourself and save fortunes.

The people who work in these places consider themselves engineers (hah) and that gives them the right to charge at least £25. If you saw the work you'd be horrified as to how they pull your car apart and whats left over when they put it back together.

Try it yourself, or ask a local member of the bbs to help you out. I am sure they would.

If you combine it with a trip to scoobysport, then I would consider helping you myself. (only cos its local)
