Right.. it is the wife's Birthday next month and she needs a lift... big style...

So thinking I might buy a new cooker.. electric (no choice as no gas out here in the sticks) simple one, probably oven and hob in one as they are cheaper.. and the hob wants to be above the cooker in my kitchen anyway.. currently have a split one and the hob is tucked in a corner and a pain to use.. would be better above the oven, and new work tops and I guess a new sink.... and paint the cupboard doors.. and new handles.. maybe even new doors.. any advice?
where to buy from etc?

Cheers

I would make sure you buy her something personal for her birthday too !

Bit difficult to help without some idea of what's there now, what your budget is etc. etc.

We've just re-built our kitchen....MFI units, there pretty good if you assemble them yourself and take the time to do it. We bought all top of the range BOSCH oven/Induction hob/dishwasher and extractor hood from www.primrose.co.uk paid for it on-line and was delivered in 1 week !...excellent service, very helpfull. http://64.207.13.28/mysmilies/contrib/corky/corkysm60.gif

Yeah okay I didn't givre much detail did I.

Currently have horrible beige everything.. floor tiles, cupboard doors, worktops and walls all beige..

Thinking whilst in there today would like some black marble effect surfaces or perhaps solid wood effect also dark and then stain all wood dark and paint the walls perhaps light colour but not beige.. just leave the tiles.. new oven and hob.. preferably as one and new sink and taps..

Budget.. probably couple of hundred on the cooker and maybe another couple of hundred.. I know diy places sell surfaces for about £30 per 12feet... need to check.. Homebase online here I come..

Any advice on joining work surfaces? covering the joins? as will be running them along three walls with two corner joins..

Measure exactly where you want the joins and get someone with a jig and router to do them. I think it will work out much better than using the metal joining bits. (The jig is expensive to buy for a one off, even if you have the router bits...)

As for the hob - I would strongly reccomend an induction hob - it's instant like gas, but runs on electric. The downside is that you have to have steel pans (Must stick toa magnet - some stainless doesn't :()

Watford laminates do excellent work tops, they mitre the joins as well so you can't see the join ! Try your local laminate's they might be the same price as some on-line more well known shops but the quality qill be better.

As for the induction hob.....most excellent, we went for one of these and it's very space aged touch control, they heat up quicker and use less energy than gas or normal electric lamp/ring. :)

Looks like built in cooker and hob is cheaper than a oven and hob as one.. so perhaps problem solved..

Nice idea with the laminates specialist.. no idea of one local but I shall look into that.

Thanks for thoughts so far.. thinking perhaps I should avoid the black granite look as it might be such a big difference to the current one.. perhaps the natural wood blocks effect I have seen... enough waffling..
