Model number SGS 6312 about 3 years old, had a power cut whilst it was washing the other night and now it doesn't heat the water.

I've taken the side off and can't see a trip or anything, I've checked what I think is the heater and can't get any voltage on the terminals when it's washing.

Any idea's ?
Cheers

Allan,
Not an answer to your problem ... but if you want to replace your Bosch dishwasher, I'm selling my slimline one ..

Bosch slimline, model SPS6462, ultra quiet, 45 x 60 x 86, very good condition.

Are you getting mains to the machine???
check the fuse in the plug, then follow the wires checking with a electrical tester that you have mains power.
i use one of those neon sticks ,about £15 from screwfix, you can just touch the outer sleeve of the wire and the end glows up where power is

Yep machine works fine apart from no heat, it's got to be due to the power cut taking something out.

I think it's got one of those encapsulated heaters in it, works like an instant shower.

Silly question, but have you done the reset thing with the dishwasher? (hold down 3 of the buttons Alt-Ctrl-Del style )

Mine was acting up till I tried this (Yes it is a Bosch)

Failing that, it's probably a replacement heater - Bosch have been quite good to me regarding spares in the past.

Thanks dnb I'll try that when I get home.

Was the replacement heater easy to fit, although I'm still not sure it's gone as I can't see any voltage on it.

OK, I've tried the 3FS with no joy, assuming it's not a particular combination, I tried several.

General way to fault find is to trace everything back - see if the relay supplying voltage to the wires for the heater has voltage in, and a 'call' voltage from the controler (electronic or mechanical) and the thermostat when the heating element should be on. [Usually four connections - +ve and -ve mains supply, 'call' to activate the relay and then the output wire that goes positive when the relay is on, supplying power to your heater :)]

It could also be a faulty thermostat - check the connections to this. If you check it with a multimeter it should be 0 Ohms when heat is demanded.

Hard to explain in print really - sorry, but I tried!

Thanks for that Diesel,
I have organised for the men in overalls to call on Friday :( hope it's not expensive.
I did have a go at trying to find the fault but it's a little awkward when your lying on the floor with motors and pumps whirring away in your face :D

the 3FS on mine was Eco + normal + intensive all held in, then switch the power switch to on.

I haven't replaced the heater on mine, it was a small sensor in the salt chamber that was broken - I had to take EVERYTHING apart to get to it...

For the record it's usually the mechanical bits that go wrong, not the electronics. (Not including software crashes of course ;))

Had it fixed today, turned out to be a dry joint on the back of the control module, the guy said it was the second one he had fixed today, same fault, same joint

Took him 5 mins to fix, £60 please.......images/smilies/mad.gif could have done this myself.

Yeah my XR3i broke down from that once too. Took the AA man 5 mins! My Bosch Dishwasher arrives in a week, so it's good to know!

Glad it's sorted.

(PS got it from COOPElectrical.co.uk - pounds cheaper than everyone on everything - saved £60 on a Dyson compared to Comet...)

Diesel,
Another common problem with Bosch dishwashers is the switch's pack up, it will normally require a new switch module.
However I took mine apart and managed to re-glue the small prongs which break off.
