View Full Version : Historic Rally Events ScooBabe 22 December 2002, 16:16 What age does the car entering have to be in order to qualify for these events? J4MES 22 December 2002, 21:57 Have a look at www.hrcr.co.uk. I compete in the British Historic Championship, with my old man. There are two main categories, historic and post-historic. I forget the exact cut off dates but I think historic is pre 1966 and post-historic is for any car made after 1966. I may be wrong though, it did happen once. The cut off date for post-historics is a rolling one so in a few years time you can expect to see the Group B monsters back out. Provided their owners want to get them dirty! The MSA are cherry picking the cars they want to include so that the championship isn't swamped with **** cars. They are currently debating whether or not to include Mk2 Escorts! IMHO I think the BHRC is one of the most competitive championships in the UK. Certainly one of, if not the, friendliest. Cheap(ish), if motorsport can ever be cheap(!), and the variety of machinery you see out is amazing. Proper cars! GM 22 December 2002, 22:40 "Historic" is pre 1 Jan 1968 and "Post-historic" is pre 1 Jan 1974. The dates don't change - they're designed to keep Mk 1 Escorts out of the historic class and to keep Mk 2 Escorts out of the post historic class. Some events have a third class (Classic?) where I think the date is basically 20 years old. Funnily enough, I was talking about historic rallying earlier this afternoon. Used to navigate a frogeye Sprite for a friend. We mainly did the Scottish Historic Road Rally championship - almost won it one year. I did do one stage event with another guy in a beautiful TR3. Well it was beautiful until we stuck a wheel in one of Charterhall airfield's potholes and rolled the poor old thing. Still won the class though.........:) ScooBabe 22 December 2002, 22:55 Hey, thanks guys. Interesting. I asked for a couple of friends who have some oldish 1.8 GSX Scoobs and are wondering what class they can put them in. They would currently be up against the big boys I guess. They are not old enough tho to go in the historic for a few years yet then :D Still trying to get them to go in a 1600 championship with me :D J4MES 22 December 2002, 22:59 What championship/s are you planning to enter, and what car? [Edited by J4MES - 12/22/2002 10:01:09 PM] ScooBabe 22 December 2002, 23:28 Its a championship for any 1600 group n car run by Paul Benning and follows the BTRDA calendar. Best 6 rounds to count with some sort of prize, cant remember the exact details Already got a Pug 205, so my arm is being twisted :D What car have you got James? Amanda J4MES 23 December 2002, 00:13 My Dad and I rally a Saab 96. A two-stroke version with an awesome 33bhp at the wheels!! Its good fun though and we have had our fair share of class wins/moments/accidents/arguements. I would like to move into something more modern but the budget isn't really there! I would dearly love to contest the BTRDA F1400 championship. These plans are on hold though, pending a lottery win or my marriage to a rich woman. ScooBabe 23 December 2002, 00:16 Saab 96, cool, probably seen you then, you seem successful, well done! :) I wish motorsport was cheaper as well :D J4MES 23 December 2002, 00:21 You probably have seen us, the 'Dad and Lad crew' in the funny sounding, funny looking car, pottering around at the back of the historic field! We were on Channel 5 the other night too, on Rally UK! Who was it who once said; 'The only way to make a small fortune out of motorsport is to start with a big one', or something along those lines. Very true, but it is an addiction. Did you do any of the 205 challenge rounds this year? BOB.T 23 December 2002, 00:54 Whats the beef with the Escorts? Is it just cos they'll clear up:D:D J4MES 23 December 2002, 01:04 Correct, the Mk1 BDA's are pretty much the car to have in the post-historics. Except you could buy something like a Toyota Corolla WRC for the same price!! If the Mk2 was introduced then it would all get a bit boring and there are still zillions of the buggers still competing in most other classes/championships. Maybe they will introduce another class, post-post-historic, to cater for the next generation of cars. The sights and sounds of a British Historic Championship round is something else, and a must see for anyone who remembers the golden age of rallying. ScooBabe 23 December 2002, 10:41 James, no wonder you did well in some of your rounds, Ive just seen your website! :D The Shock Coffee sounds particularly good :D I only did one round of the 205 in the end, what with one thing or the other. Mainly due to having a badly prepared car in the first place, and then being sent out by another team in something that was almost as bad. I have consequently found an excellent mechanic who now says the car is actually going rather well. Pity he lives so far from me  :D I've seen a red saab, is that you? Will there be any historic classes on the rallies that the BTRDA do? Heres where I show my ignorance  :D Amanda J4MES 23 December 2002, 21:17 Yeah man, permanently wired! Which 205 round did you do? I went to watch at the first round at Twyford Wood, pissed myself laughing I did. So many comedy moments during the day! My club organised the second round at Binbrook. I don't like to remind myself of that event! I got very wet and very pissed off. The BTRDA rounds sometimes run a few histerics at the front of the field. The Cambrian usually has about ten. Ours is indeed the ickle red Saab. We did the Quinton this year, a cracking event which uses the smoothest, and some of the fastest forests in the UK. Certainly one I'd do again. And hopefully we'll finish it this time. Glad you have finally got the car sorted, there are some crooks out there. Now go out and give it some beans! ScooBabe 23 December 2002, 22:39 Cool :D So I saw you at a welsh rally one or two years ago! There certainly are some crooks out there, as Ive learnt to my cost. I wish I wasnt so trusting and gullible  Anyway, love the stuff you sell...warpmints  I dont need any of that stuff as I'm permenently wired anyway :D but I may just get some warpmints just cos they'd be so cool to hand round at some dull meeting I was at...excellent! :D:D:D I did Binbrook!! Yes, what a bummer, the weather was totally crap eh! I didnt even finish that as the car's wheel bearings were crap before I even started, it didnt help to hit a rock tho, and had to retire at stage three. Stranded there with the car for about an hour and a half! I had electrical problems on stage two as well! Anyway, like you say, best forgotten! I watched Twyford as well, very funny!! Weather was nice too. Do you know anyone else in the 205 challenge? I know Jono who won the beginners section at the final round at Grizedale. That was a great weekend, partywise as well :D I used to drive a Saab 99 a few years ago, just like an aircraft, reckon it was pretty cool tho. I quite like some Saabs, a couple of my mates are fans  [Edited by ScooBabe - 12/23/2002 9:44:50 PM] J4MES 23 December 2002, 22:50 I was the one stood at the stage arrival control all day at Binbrook! As well as doing stage set-up/turnaround/breakdown, breaking forklift trucks, and being wound up by someone who shall remain nameless. You have undoubtedly seen us at a Welsh rally! Do they hold rallies anywhere else?! We have done grizedale for the last few years. A good rally and, like you say, a good end of season party. Twyford was great. We all knew what to expect and we weren't disappointed! Utter chaos! I know of a couple of people who took part in the 205 challenge. I don't think they did the whole championship though. I nearly entered it myself but I was put off by one or two things! Probably best not to go into them on a public forum! ScooBabe 23 December 2002, 23:21 Wales does crop up a lot for rallies :p:D I knew you would pick up on that :D I was so involved in my first rally that I cant really remember who was who! Still I'll come and find you if we clash at any others :D Ooo, best to chat elsewhere than on this public forum eh :D J4MES 23 December 2002, 23:56 Are you going to be out on the Wyedean in February? 1st BTRDA round of 2003. Or do you have another planned for the first one of the year? ScooBabe 24 December 2002, 09:37 Not sure whether doing Wyedean, but I'll deffo be there to watch and cheer on if not! Are you doing that one? I am being persauded to do a tarmac rally in Plymouth..edited to say its not Plymouth, somewhere else down south on Jan 5th. I obviously need a lot more stage miles under my belt! Its a bit of a trek for me from Sheffield tho. Specially if the weather changes  :D [Edited by ScooBabe - 12/24/2002 6:33:02 PM] |
