I moved into my new house 3 months ago knowing the garage roof was going to leak and now the winter is here, it leaks alot.

Its brick built with the usual felt roof.

Is is going to be a case of just ripping of the felt and nailing on some new stuff or will there be some ply board underneath that will need replacing.

Thanks guys :D

go to diy store and buy some sealer you can paint on and fix it properly next summer

I agree. Fake it up until you can deal with it in the better weather.

There should be a ply base under the felt, and depending on how much the roof has leaked, you may or may not have to replace all/part of the wood. It is quite a straight forward job really. (Just not one I would want in the winter!)

We had our flat roof done in August this year cost £650, guaranteed for 15 years. They used several layers of felt and took them about 6 hours....i'd get it done a.s.ap but it does depend on this crap weather !

I agree with Petrol-Head.

My old house had a dormer that we patched up for 18 months - then just b4 we sold ended up haveing to have it replaced.

Get it done and reap the benefit.

If you can see the cracks in the roof, you could use something like flexacryl to paint over them & seal them (we use it at work for patch roof repairs). According to the tin you can put it on a wet roof.

Or you could patch the cracks with flashband (need a fairly clean and dry roof or it won't stick). Warm it with a blowlamp & it sticks even better.

It the roof deck is sound, you could cover over the whole roof with a layer of torch-on felt as a slightly more permanent patch. If the deck's past it, then as mentioned, the whole lot will have to come off.

We had a garage with a felt roof, (24ft X 14ft) for years, and it always leaked, no matter what we did, ripped it off and put a sheet tin roof on it, doesn't leak now, and we even got clear panels to let the light in, wicked!!!
