We are intending to go on a trip to Scotland to find some proper roads and scenery so not being familiar with this fine country would like some help.

We are intending to drive up (from Lancashire) on Friday and return Monday so I would be grateful if any of you can reccommend some good driving roads and wonderful scenery up around Loch Ness area as well as any reasonably priced hotels etc.

Scotland is just 'scenery' ... go for it...keep away from the big blobby cities and just drive...!

 

Try the Trossachs area...a real gem for scenery and also go to Plockton (where they filmed Hamish Macbeth) you'll just love that area. Load of B&B...just stop and ask.

read the report on the Tour D'Ecosse in the last issue of True Grip. Some excellent roads which we have enjoyed many times now

Simply head for the West Coast via Fort William, then on towrds Kyle of Lochalsh. Either head into Kyle and/or nearby Plockton, or over the bridge to Skye (which will take the best part of a day to go around).

The head north toward LochCarron and take a left towards Shieldaig. If you want the most spectacular road in the UK, take the pass to Applecross (and back ). Then from Shieldaig you head towards Torridon and pick up the "main" road near Garve. Here you can head further north towards Ullapool, and then across further up to the NW and across the top, or head into nearby Inverness (the section of road from Garve is "heavily" policed, especially the dual carriageway into Inverness, so be very careful.

From Inverness, you can then head along Loch Ness, and follow the road back down to Fort William, or cut back across country towards Aviemore etc.

Mostly all is very nice scenery, empty roads with no Gatsos, and plenty of B&Bs and small hotels. Most people don't book up B&Bs in advance, and as you might want to stay longer in some places than others.

Just head north up the west coast from glasgow past ben nevis towards the isle of skye.

Lots of winding country roads, cliffs etc. and thousands of caravans to overtake.
