As this is a DIY Forum, I thought I might as well ask a DIY question that's been bugging me, ever since my son was born just over 3 months ago. I've begun to notice exactly how much my upstairs floorboards squeak when you walk on certain sections :(

How can I stop this? I've checked a few sites and they mention dusting talcum powder over the joints!! Has anyone tried this and does it work long-term or is there another solution I can try? I didn't want to pull up the carpets and use the talc, only for the squeaks to come back a month or two later!

I found that screwing the floorboards down, rather than using nails worked quite well. The nails somehow seem to work loose.

Screw 'em down - it works.

give em a good screwin;)
take them up first and check underneath for cables or pipes.otherwise youll be posting up "Help ive gone through a water pipe"!!!
