I really should take out a maintenance contract on the central heating system/electrics/drainage/etc on the house. Bought in August this year and I suspect the stuff is about 4 years old.
Any suggestions? Any providers to avoid?

When we moved into our last house, we were pestered by the people that installed the system to take out a maintenance cost with them. £400 a year they wanted:eek:.
Due to them annoying me so much (ie ringing every bloody day) i eventually politely told them where to go:D
Decided to ring british gas, because i had a query with the supply, at the same time i asked about maintenance. 2 minutes later the heating system was covered for £120 a year IIRC. They added it onto the monthly DD.
2 weeks later we tested their service. Problem sorted. Worth the cost of the subscription IMO.

Yep get a contract with Brittish Gas mate. Nothin to do with the fact that I ...cough...work for them but I've seen some of the bills that folk have had to pay and oooweee they are BIG!
Well worth it mate, honestly!

Commision perhaps  :D

Will British Gas be cool with the fact that I'm billed by a third party (Hydro-Electric) for the gas supply? Or would I have to switch to them for the gas as well?

Not at all mate, third party doesn't come into it. You'll just save a shed load if anythin goes wrong.

I'd also recommend British Gas. They have supplies us with cover for the past two years now. Costs about £15 per month, and we've had nothing but good service from them. Called them out on average about 3 or 4 times per year (usually a diaphraghm on the combi boiler), but you can even call them for simple things like a slow leak on a radiator. Last time the pump had failed (boiler now 6 years old), and that job alone would have cost more than the annual fee using a local, tradesman.
