Our neighbours have just been burgled. Not a nice thing for your 13 year old daughter to come home and find :( . Same house as us, even same uPVC door  .

Police have recommended fitting something called a "jemmi-safe" to uPVC doors. This is a device that fits on the outside of the door and makes it impossible to get anything in the crack of the door in order to jemmy it open.

Trouble is, the police can't tell me a supplier, victim support can't, CSAC can't, their suppliers can't and their supplier's suppliers can't!

Anyone heard of this, and know any suppliers?

Ta,
Nick.

Bloody typical:rolleyes:

It obviously does not exist.

How many locking points do yyour doors have? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5?

Some pvc doors have 1 (really poor), our last house had 7+ IIRC

what would scooby do

Steve, it's got loads, and the door's backed by a £1000 break in guarantee. It's the first time anyone's got through the door according to both the police and the fitters... The force must have been immense, they've bent the handle. B45T4R05....

WWSD, I found that from a quick google and phoned 'em up. Not suitable for uPVC doors. They put me onto someone else, who put me onto someone else, who put me onto someone else, who said "never 'eard of 'em mate".

Any clues?

In that case, THEY obviously WANTED to be in.

I cant see why the above wont work on a upvc door. All it needs is some sort of cover on the door/frame that hides the gap between the door and frame.

Although that to me looks pretty weak, and would probably come off with ease, thus making it pointless.

Stuck for thoughts:confused:

Naah, wouldn't work. It needs to attach to a frame, and the frames are bevelled for uPVC so it couldn't attach properly.

It's worried me, and it's worrying the neighbours. They took 3 stereos, 2 cameras, but left the TV, video, speakers, ...

Police have advised "caution" as they might be back for the rest :(

I've been suggested to add patio locks to the door at the top and bottom. Might give that a go.

The other doors are wooden, and it would take effort and lots of noise to come thru them, setting the alarm off immediately...

Chairk if i was you I would get those doors put onto the alarm as well the contacts for upvc doors cost peanuts if you want a couple let me know as that's what I do all day every day:rolleyes: "god I must get a new job after nearly 15years in the trade"

If you need some email me your address and I will put a couple in the post.

Oh yes, Rawlplug 10mm x 50mm brick and masonary fittings.

Seriously, I can't find a thing on any of the search engines bar the one above.

Yep, that's the same as above - cheers tho Chris.

It's really really strange that the police call these "jemmi-safe", which looks to me like a trademark name, but can I find anyone who knows anything about 'em? Can I balls :)

Two extra sash jammers went on the door yesterday...

Nick.

do you need to be able to open the door from outside?

remove the handle... then cut a length of wood 2x2 and lay it in the track and put a wedge in at the end.. until you sort something.

David
