View Full Version : Give way to Bikers at Traffic Lights??
Its against the highway code, so I personally don't allow it.
What the bikers think! (http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/thread.asp?threadid=154649)

mista weava 12 June 2002, 14:37 did'nt read thread - but i guess that you are against it.
personally i have ridden bikes - main reason = zero traffic.
i, give way to them.
in a car one is safer than on a bike - damn right car drivers should give way. its rare that a bike gets in the way becaise it is usually way up the road before it can get in the way. if you don't and someone gets hurt how could one live with their conscience?

edited to say: have read now that it is clickable - the first part of A i agree with.

tittiecarcar 12 June 2002, 14:56 most of the time i do give way and i allway's allow plenty of room for them but they dont own the rd if my car can get away from the light's faster than a bike why should i give way ?

I give way to bikers and not only because I am one (sometimes) but because it is courteous & considerate to other road users (part of the Highway Code) - which I guess you are not
To be exactly correct, traffic light filtering is NOT ILLEGAL. However, if done, the rider must take more onus of care due to the unusual position that they put themselves in (ie car drivers might not see them).
The Police don't turn a blind eye to it as it is permissable, but will enforce the law (Due Care or Dangerous Driving) if it is done without care for other road users or dangerously.
Mods, please put this over into the Bikers forum where this subject can be debated properly ( :D ).
MATTeL 06 December 2002, 15:53 I have commented on the linked thread but as PTMW states filtering is not against the law and it is actually mentioned in the Highway Code.
I give way to bikes (as I used to ride one), they are the more vunerable and are going to get away from you later on. You might as well let them go without hassle.
When I passed my bike test I did this twice and the only comment was to watch out for car drivers that don't like bikes and that it enabled me to make good progress.
marty_t3 06 December 2002, 15:56 Spent some time on bikes myself. I always try to give bikes number one priority on the road. Always leave them space to pull in front at lights or if they want to overtake. Bikes take up less space and i don't remember ever being held up by one. The roads would be a much nicer place to be if more people used bikes to commute rather than feckin buses.
bladerider 06 December 2002, 16:02 Tittiecarcar must have a drag race car then.
MATTeL 06 December 2002, 16:03 Or he only ever comes up against 50cc mopeds in a bikes fairing!;)
tittiecarcar 06 December 2002, 16:04 no iv got an sti that dont lift the front wheels off the ground when i pull away flat out
tittiecarcar 06 December 2002, 16:06 as the name suggest im a woman
davy1 06 December 2002, 16:13 the front wheel coming up is done through choice or inexperience at any rev range..
I would gladly take you on at any lights on my R6http://smilies.networkessence.net/s/contrib/ed/laugh.gif
bladerider 06 December 2002, 16:14 must have been a moped then 'cos even a 125cc can beat an STi from the lights.
DRUNKNORGY 06 December 2002, 16:27 Its against the highway code, so I personally don't allow it.
HOL - What an arrogant twat. You just demonstrated that you know absolutely naff all about road safety where bikes are concerned. It sounds like envy on your part that you have to actively obstruct them. Riders on quick bikes aren't interested in racing you off the lights, Just making sure they don't hinder you by pulling in front and then pulling off slowly. Do you think we filter to the front of queues just to race you off the line.
It sounds like you like replacing your wing mirrors.
chockymonster 06 December 2002, 16:29 It depends on the situation but usually I let the biker go first.
What annoys me most is when a biker does it but doesn't go quickly from the lights (usually on a moped :))
Nice to read the comments about door and mirror kicking in the other thread though. Does make you not want to give a t*ss
tittiecarcar 06 December 2002, 16:36 in your dreams davy 1 ,just pasted a R1 off the lights on wed. dont just rely on speed, you need alot of bottle to beat me ,i'm afraid the shiney leather gimp suits just aint enough
scunnered 06 December 2002, 16:42 You couldn't have "pasted" an R1. He must have thought "bloody women drivers" and just let you get on with it. Much safer to have a reckless driver in front so as you don't get hit from behind.
DRUNKNORGY 06 December 2002, 16:52 He obviously didn't see you titi, You cannot compare straightline performance of a scoob to an R1 (unless its wet), if you do its cos your blowing it out of your ass. You haven't a clue what your talking about.
If you deliberately block a bike which is filtering and risk knocking them off you deserve what you get. You are playing with their life, Don't be surprised if you get a hostile reaction.
You want to turn a minor irritation which makes no difference to your journey time into life threatening situation. Whats wrong with you ppl.
If you don't like sitting in traffic jams, don't knock the people who have the bottle to find another way through them
scunnered 06 December 2002, 16:56 I suspect there's a bit of biker baiting going on here.
DRUNKNORGY 06 December 2002, 17:13 You may be right scunnered, but if your in a position where you can bankroll a decent scoob, then you must have a reasonable amount of intelligence. I guess this thread goes some way in blowing that notion out of the water
MATTeL 06 December 2002, 17:47 A lot of biker baiting even my old (sadly sold) Yam Thundercat would see of the STi.
It certainly saw off bigger performance cars from the lights.
met 06 December 2002, 18:19 wat a wnacker! i would totally kill any modded scoob ( i own one) with my R1 FULLSTOP. i would however prefer to have someone like that in front of me though, the reason indeed for the aggresive posts from the bikers is that yuo are playing with ours & our families lives! cut me up & try to reduce my life out there F8cko & i will follow you home & do you & your car!
tittiecarcar 06 December 2002, 19:04 i not sure why all you little boys have got your knickers in such a twist is it because you could get beat by a woman or because i said you dont own the rd grow up & as for the prat who thinks hes going to beat up a woman bring it on bitch & ill slap ya bow legged
mutant_matt 07 December 2002, 13:02 :rolleyes::(
