M8 I had a cbr400 tri-arm for 5 years and did 30,000 miles on it and I am 6'3. The only issue I had was that my knees rested on the fairing which caused bits to crack  but nothing too drastic, just the edge of the plastic, and my dad thought I made it look like a mini moto when I sat on it :p

Honda 400 sports are the best handling bikes on the face of the planet and if you have just passed will help build up your confidence for bigger bikes.

Speed wise mine was good for 140 with derestriction box and full JMC race system. Insurance is very cheap compared to 600's and above.

In my opinion they are amazing bikes and would have one again if I could afford another bike but now have ZX6R and scoob and they cost an arm and a leg on their own  :D

Oh and one other thing, their engines are bullet proof, did 10k without servicing and not only did it not drink one drop of oil but the garage were stunned when the oil came out as clear as when it had gone in 10k earlier  Says it all about their engines really!

Get it if its in good nick!

Here is a couple of pics of my old work horse, the first one gives an idea of size of a 400 with someone of similar height to yourself on it.

I've just passed my bike test and Im looking for a bike. A friend of a friend is selling a Honda VFR 400. I like the bike but I'm 6 foot 2 and Im not sure if I'll be able to ride it or not.

Am I too tall?

Almost certainly too tall.
I rode one a little while ago and it nearly killed me (I'm 6'4). Although a great laugh. if you can stretch to it i'd say try and get yourself a 600.That little bit more room can count for so much.

Good luck

J

A friend who owned a FZR400RR is over 6ft - it was cramped but he enjoyed riding it - so the only way to find out is to take it for a test ride!

Bravo -- no oil change in 10K miles? Mind you, if you're using it just for weekend blasts etc, then it's ideal from the oil point of view.

Don't you have to move radiators etc to change the spark plugs, and stuff like that?

Brickboy I was using it to commute everyday on to uni in London. Nope not serviced in 10k, but it was a one off due to poor student days :p It honestly never touched a drop of oil and was as clean as when it went it. The engine was unbelievablely strong on that bike.

Yep changing the spark plugs was a nightmare, the rad had to be undone and moved out the way  and then the plugs are about 12" inside the engine casing  and needed a special tool to release them. Had to take it to the garage in the end to get it done.

I am 6'4" and had an NC30..
Only really had a problem when riding for very long periods..
Definately the best 400 you can buy IMHO..
Rob:)
Edited to say that i had it Dynojetted (K+N filter), and a full Jap exhaust (very loud) and i used to piss all over CBR600's..
If thats your bag ;)

i used to look like a sack of spuds had been dropped onto the seat of my nc30 hehehehe

was a cracking bike though, lots of v4 character that i loved to bits.

Disagree with the best handling comment tho, my aprilia rs250 handled so much better than all the other bikes i owned after it.

I don't count 2 strokes as proper bikes, they sound like a feking hairdryer and blow up all the bloody time :p

so a two stroke 500gp bike isn't 'proper'......

think messers rainey, schwantz, doohan, roberts et al would beg to differ :)

saying that though only had my rs250 for about 7 months before italian quality control procedures got on my nerves :)
