I know this post is not about an event but it is specific to the north so I didn't want to put it into the "general section".

I got a call from the North Yorkshire cops over the weekend. A stolen blue MY02 WRX with my reg plates on it rammed a cop car to get away in Skipton last week.

The police came round to check and realised that mine (STi with UK300 headlights) was not the same car.

I got a call from a guy assigned to the case saying there was a alot of Scoobs being stolen in North Yorkshire and then the thieves putting copies of local license plates on them of cars that look similar so they seem OK and "local" when police do plate checks. They are then used for speeding, robbing etc.

I know you can't stop people looking at your car but be aware that if you get any police notices through the post, ask for evidence i.e. the photo if it's a speeding fine, since it might not actually be you or your car - then again (knowing some of you), it just might :)

A scary thought. PErhaps one saving grace of making obvious unique modifications to your vehicle.

I'd be scared to if xXx rang up from Yorkshire Police :D

This happened to me a few yrs ago with my old scoob, the *******s used a stolen silver scoob with my private plate to run amock for 8 months, stealing petrol, cars from forecourts card fraud and each time I got the hassle :(

They even manged to oout run a police chase and on the second chase they crashed and got 5yrs. i only know this bit as the chasing officer stopped me one nite and told me about it, decent of him.

So be careful out their guys ;)

its not just Scoobs - at work mlast week got a call - do you (the company) own a silver Alfa 156 JTD reg W623OKH (or summat like)..

well that WAS the reg of the silver alfa 156 JTD we've got, but the day we got it (over 18 months ago) it had private company plates put on it, transfered and sorted by th Alfa dealer before collection, and we've got the V5 to prove it.

Why, we ask? Cos it was in an accident in York the other week! Erm...no..its not us!

So..work THAT one out! Usually the DVLA DON'T re-assign the number off your car - if you transfer your private plate you usually get the OLD plate back. I say this from experience cos we've done quite a few through the comapny and always got the same plate back. So now I keep the old plates - saves a packet on buying new ones to get rid of the car :D
