View Full Version : GIBSONS OF BROCK-Comments please
chunter 12 March 2002, 12:41 Had MY98 45K service done there a few months back - no complaints.
Service was good, seemed to know what they were talking about. Slightly worrying there is a "To Let" sign on the Showroom though - as am just about in need of 52.5K service - Can anybody recommend anywhere else in the area?

Nick Land 15 November 2002, 20:37 Has anyone been a customer of Gibsons of Brock. I have ordered a car but they don't reply to e-mails or requests for information unless they are pushed. I have paid a hefty deposit and can't walk away but am getting worried even before car is due.
Please can you comment on service that any of you have received ?
Thanks
warbs 15 November 2002, 22:52 Nick,
Got my WRX from them a little over a year ago.
Arrived when they said it would, was ready to collect, even phoned me 3 months later to see where I wanted the owners manual sending to!
Had to pay for a drink on pick up day though even though I'd traveled over 100 miles to collect the car - but cheap I thought.
RAC came out to visit the trackstar Gibsons installed - said there was a mistake on the install.
- apart from that though they did everything I asked - would be happy to use them again, if I didn't collect myself!
Cheers
Chris
PeteT 18 November 2002, 00:43 I had my last service done there and some Goodrich hoses fitted and they seemed ok. Quite a bit cheaper than an official dealer.
Tony_W 18 November 2002, 14:20 Imported mine through them. Also found they wouldn't respond unless pushed. The salesman always appeared disinterested. Perhaps demand outweighs supply so they can afford to be like this?
Car arrived okay but was delayed by a week in Liverpool (not Gibsons fault).
Advice: Check car thoroughly when you get it, as I could have ended up with an MY01 instead of an MY02 and there was also a knock on the rear wheel arch from being in a container during delivery, which they'd polished heavily to "patch up".
Overall on delivery they were good. It's the aftersales that is quite frankly..crap. Despite their local radio ads stating they will fix any faults direct, unlike if you import from elsewhere I found it was not true in my case:
I lost 5th gear syncromesh after 600 miles and they refused at first to fix it. Said it would go away/ease off after another 500 miles, then said they wouldn't road check the fault due to it being 5th gear!!
After contacting several local specialists who all agreed it was the synchromesh I had to battle with the owner (name withheld) who eventually agreed to fix it under warranty some 2 weeks later. Turns out they were extremely busy at the time so tried to defer me until they had space..
They serviced it at 1000miles okay. Found a dent in bonnet afterwards though and guess what...they refused to acknowledge it was them. I knew it was as I'd polished it the day before, but couldn't prove anything.
Oh, and I also had squealing brakes which they looked at twice and didn't cure the problem but then refused to change. Consequently I took the brakes elsewhere and had them fixed, and also took my business elsewhere for servicing.
I won't go back...full stop. Check it over in detail when you get it. If the brakes squeal insist they fix it. and I'll give you my name to quote if they spin the usual yarn of "they all do that".
Sorry to moan and cause you any undue worry. The delivery WAS okay and they did deliver roughly on time, just check it over and don't get fobbed off if there's faults.
Tony
Edward 22 November 2002, 18:01 Nick, I would check that you are getting an EU sourced car and not one from Cyprus.
Are you making the final payment to the supplying dealer or to Gibsons? When I imported my 02 WRX through Keyring all payments for the car where made directly to the dealer in Belguim.
Does anyone know why Gibsons have a big "To Let" sign outside the showroom?
E.
Tony_W 27 November 2002, 14:19 Are you sure it didn't say ToiLet ?? ;) ;) :)

Steve Sherwen 29 November 2002, 19:55 Found them great! Got my MY01 off them last September. Just check what oil they use in their services though...

Andy McCord 03 December 2002, 13:02 Chunter, you @ BAE systems??
MrDBM 03 December 2002, 17:38 A&J White in Blackburn are okay, I've never had any reason to complain.
calum 07 December 2002, 23:06 Andy - Certainly am M8 (Warton) - You?
Andy McCord 09 December 2002, 08:47 im abit confused now calum!!! whos chunter??, based at Sams busy as ever!!!
Andy McCord 10 December 2002, 08:34 you must have registered twice M8, silver STi V my99, have to say this place is full off them at the moment, theres a few on this BBS from sams, scoobytowers & DBM something, i think we should set up a BAe scooby BBS!!
MrDBM 10 December 2002, 09:56 i'll second that...
(I thought I hadn't seen your beast around for a while Calum! - tearing up Warton's tarmac instead!)
chunter 10 December 2002, 11:12 Certainly am tearing up the Warton tarmac! - quite entertaining trying to take on these Eurofighter efforts. I reckon Id have them hands down!
So what do you local guys think: Due 52k service (minor) in Jan. Gibsons or AJ White or any other suggestions. The reason I went to Gibson's was the fact that they had all the proper Subaru tooling and trained service guys but seeing as they aren't a franchise dealer any more they are much cheaper. Slightly worrying that they didnt spot my front discs were warped last time I was in though (even after a test drive!). I put some Black Diamond grooved and drilled on with Mintex pads after I couldn't deal with the vibrations any more!
Tony_W 10 December 2002, 13:13 Chunter,
I personally wouldn't go anywhere near Gibsons again..
As you'll see in a min with a separate thread some of us have had "problems" with bonnet damage, amongst other things when having the cars serviced by them.
Choice is yours in the end though.
(I'm Warton based as well...Blue My02, personal reg, TSL Gp N exhaust and morettes)
Tony
Andy McCord 10 December 2002, 16:21 this is getting well weird & ironic, not only am i finding out how many fellow BBS people are working at BAe but i have recently moved house. Ive actually bought the mechanics house that works at Gibsons!!!!!
Andy McCord 10 December 2002, 16:28 Forgot to say that i never use them, ive been using a guy at Bolton called Ian Smith, he used to all warrenders prep work 4 them. Ive now decided that from now on ill be trekking to TSL , 100 miles roughly,Having bought Brians house from Gibsons i have visited them a few times in there workshop, i also had a prob, chunter with my orig discs which were fracturing, i asked the other guy (Not brian) for any advice. he was as helpful telegraph pole!!!, the garage is a bit off a Sh*t hole, but theres a guy here on sams site who recommends them, they just dont look enthusiastic at all to me
MrDBM 10 December 2002, 17:09 A&J are ok Calum, I've taken mine there on it's last three services. They seem to know their stuff, and are quite helpful. For the minor service, you shouldn't be in there any more than an hour or so. (they even have the StarWars trilogi that you can watch!)
I've heard pretty good things about Mainland Widnes, but it's a long way to go for a minor. I may try them for the major though...
chunter 11 December 2002, 11:51 Andy - Is Brian the one that would appear to be slightly senile (in the nicest possible way!!) Was slightly worrying when he burned off down the A6 for a road test in my car and he could just about see over the steering wheel!
Do you know if its just the show room they are letting?
Andy McCord 11 December 2002, 12:30 Chunter, Brian is the older looking one, hes a character when you get him talking, the other guys i think is a mute because ive never heard him speak, only grunt!!! not sure what there leasing, will have a look on my way home tonight M8
