eibachs (on 'classic') - shocks?

So; a take a normal MY00 suspension set-up, add anti-lift kit & eibachs, end up with something that handles better on good road surfaces (great if I could find some...
) but a bit, well, springy 
I'd love a proper set of coilovers but can't throw that much cash away at the moment, so... are dampers the thing to play with here? If so, any pointers to what sort are a good buy? Or is it pointless mucking about like this & I may as well bite the bullet & throw a wad at a whole new set up some time in the distant future when I have the cash?
