Plantie.

You need to concentrate on one thing first, and thats driving a car properly and one that you can handle ! Once you've mastered how to drive get yourself a car that has 5 gears, cus you hate cars with 6.

SEE YOU SOON !

Kev..

Just been out in a Civic Type R and loved bar the 6 speed box...

Had a GTI-6 before my Scoob and had similar feelings.... always have to shift down 2 gears into corners and always find the gears changes are required mid coner as appose to on the way out

Just my 2p...

Anyone feel the same??

In what way, apart from gear 6, is it different from any other 5 speed? some cars are closer ratioed (for better perf - e.g. with vtecs) and some are just the same as normal with a 6th on top (mainly for economy on motorways etc. i.e the 306 etc.).

The same argument you give would also count for 5 speed vs 4 speed. then you'd have one less gear to change.

Ultimately nothing really to do with number of gears, just how close ratioed they are.

Dracoro indeed....

It is how they make the 1-5 ratio's smaller to include the six that is the problem...

And i found my GTI-6 the same....

I just feel it is safer to concentrate on the corner as appose to changing gear at the same time too....

I too had a GTI-6, which i had trouble ensuring was in the right gear. Not so with the Type "R" i now run, never missed a gear, which is what i tended to do in the Pug.

Give time i think you will love it.
Cheers

Of course if those six ratios are not your cup tea, there are many modern alternatives.

On reflection, IMHO I've never experienced any modern production car 5-6 gearbox to operate/feel as nicely as my old MGB's H-gate 4 speed gearbox back in the 1960-70s. However, that also had six ratios, with overdrive on 3rd and 4th ... caress a small switch in the top of the gear lever **** (oh matron) and that smoothest of ratio changes was always a delight. None of this additional effort 5-6 gear shifting malarkey ... aint natural ....

Since mine's a diseasel it has enough torque to allow any 3 of the 6 to be fine for any given situation (and after it gets chipped on Tuesday it's have over 300lb/ft).

I find it has a nice change and the 6 gears are not a problem; just a bit long-throw after the Prodrive quickshift.
