Just about the best road atlas you can buy is Philip's Navigator Britain,
http://www.halfords.com/shop/images/sku/374389.jpg
the detail is superb (1&1/2 miles to 1 inch) and it has every farm track, un-classed road, B road etc. I use one all the time and, as long as you can read a map you can't possibly get lost with it :D
Mail me and I'll give you our mobile numbers so we can meet up as we're on an Event Pass 2 too :)
Did you order a ticket for the shakedown on Thursday too? It's an extra £30 but it does mean you get an extra days worth of seeing the cars in action and being serviced :D

Imitryx 04 November 2002, 20:30 hello!
am travelling from canada (toronto area) to cardiff for this years network q, would appreciate any tips you can give us on what are the essential stages to check, what are the best pubs etc etc...
my oldest nephew is coming with me, neither of us have been to the uk before, i think we have some accomodation sorted right in cardiff, but are thinking of maybe getting a room closer to the service area...
any info would be greatly appreciated!

You can't just go to whichever stages you want now and tickets on the day are limited. See here (http://buypower.vauxhall.co.uk/networkQ/nqRally2002TicketDetails.jhtml) for details.
The popular choice (on Scoobynet anyway) seems to be Event Pass 2. I'd hate for you to come all the way over here then not be able to get into any stages because they're sold out! :)

Imitryx 04 November 2002, 23:18 yea, we are gonna have to sort out tickets as soon as we get there, kinda hard to buy them online when i am located here i wish there was a way to pay online and reserve the tickets and then just pick them up when we arrive... event pass 2 seems to be the most popular
Imitryx 05 November 2002, 03:53 got a dumb question, is there buses running to the different stages?
or is it essential that we hire a car??
thanks...
Scooby Snax 05 November 2002, 10:46 try http://www.rallygb.co.uk has loads of info for you!

Hire a car! Definitely. Most of the stages are off the beaten track and only accessible by car.
Sal
Imitryx 06 November 2002, 03:27 ok purchased our event pass (2) today over the phone,
so basically all we have left to sort out is hireing a car for fri, sat and sunday now...
can you people who live in the cardiff area reccomend anywhere that hires car's for a decent rate??
we'll drive anything as long as it gets us to the stages...
thanks,
jason
Carl Harvey 06 November 2002, 10:28 Your best bet is to hire a car from the airport, which are you flying into?
Check the web as all the airports have guides on the web with information about car hire,
Then buy a good road atlas, you are going to need it to find the stages.
fuzzy13 07 November 2002, 03:29 Those maps are suberb. My brother and I used one like it when we went down to watch the 24h of LeMans this past summer.
Wish we had something similar here in Canada.
Imitryx 08 December 2002, 02:18 a little late in posting, but we had a pretty good time at the network q.. and enjoyed our time in the uk...
thanks to everyone who emailed me with info and tips...
was greatly appreciated
i put some of the pics that i took up here:
http://www.eideticmedia.com/rallygb/pics/1/
used a cheapo digi cam, but you will get the idea!

JackClark 08 December 2002, 09:54 Thanks for sharing those Jason. I'm in one of the shots at Halfway. One other thing, you have a picture of Tower Bridge not London Bridge.
