Brake disk and pads basics!
So . . . Im in the market for a new set of front disks and pads for my MY00, after the local dealer wanted well over £500 for standard replacements.
Knowing zilch about the products available, can someone make some recommendations - products and suppliers? I only need ordinary road use, so not too exotic (aka expensive) please!

How about some nice Group N+ discs from TSL
Some DS2500 pads
Braided lines
Pro Race brake fluid.
Should improve braking considerably over standard, and cost less than what the dealer has quoted you.

Give Performance Braking in Monmouth a call, 01600 713117. They supplied me with the Pagid 8 groove discs and RS421 pads for £295 all in for my MY00 Turbo. Very helpful people, not at all pushy and only sold me what I needed for the type of driving I do. I wanted a setup which will last and not wear out in 5 minutes like other brakes I've had. So far, they appear to be lasting well.
These are the brakes sold elsewhere for far more and classed as 'Group N' brakes. They work better from cold than standard brakes and dust far less as well. Having just come back from a trackday at Spa I can also say they work extremely well under sustained hard use.

Mike - thats exactly what Im looking for, doesnt sound bad for under £300. Did you get replacement hoses too? How does the performance compare with the OEM set-up? You've retained the original calipers, and the discs/pads work fine with them?

PAGID grooved discs should never be sold as grpN - discs must be as original fitment for this class!
we have a high quality, plain disc available that is grpN legal but,
at the end of the day for road cars dont matter what you fit as long as its good quality!!

£295 was just for the discs and pads. PB also do a braided hose kit which I've bought but not yet fitted for £38 IIRC. I've still got the standard calipers and I use DOT 4 fluid, which I've had bled through after fitting the new discs / pads.
Pedal feel is much better than OEM and the whole setup is just generally better than OEM. The pads work better from cold than standard, but the hotter they get, the better they get. When I had the OEM pads fitted they would soon overheat. So far, I've not managed to get these to fade, even round Spa on Monday.
As a bonus, they don't dust anywhere near as much as standard pads. I recommend you give PB a call as they're only just over the bridge from you. Ask for Jill or John, they're incredibly helpful people.

I think they are actually marketed as Group N+ because as was pointed out Group N must be as per the standard discs (although they can be heat treated). Agree with what you say about the price though, I've found them to be expensive compared to others.
