I have got the below STi strut brace and a MY93 WRX and cannot get the thing to fit on with out fouling on the bonnet. Any Ideas what I might be doing wrong? Does the metal scoop ducting (intercooler and turbo?) have to be removed? Does this fit on this car (mine looks that same as the one in the pic). I have adjusted the bar as low as the cam goes and taken the intercooler rubber and duct off but still no joy. I can't justify removing all the ducting to fit this please don't tell me this is the only way :(

Could the Bar be bent doesnt look it but then I I have nothing for comparison?

all help very much appreciated

I only had to slot the rubber skirt around the scoop to fit mine.
Sorry no piccys on this PC at the moment.
How much gap is there between the top of the I/C and the brace?
Mine has about half an inch - can't tell from your side-on picture.

Edited to say half in gap on the left hand side when looking from front of the car.

I could easily be wrong, but it looks to me as thought you're trying to fit a later strut brace to an early car, the later cars have a straight and square intercooler,
Just a thought.

If you find a solution let me know, same problem with mine.
Just bend the bonnet over it, bonnet doesn't fit very well now and alarm keeps activating but goes round corners better!

You sure that's an STi strut brace? Mine is for a UK00 car and came off a 22b. It looks nothing like that and fits perfectly. There are some pics similar to my strut brace in For Sale at the mo...

Whatever you might say about STi bits (ie ten times the price they should be) at least they fit!

Richard.

I belive this is an STi strut brace and also it sould fit on a all GC8 imprezas as per Ravensblade impreza's catalogue download

http://www.ravensblade-impreza.com/download/ossti/15.jpg

also don't think the inter cooler sould be too much of a problem as it definatly doesnt touch

so still looking for advice so I dont have to bend the bonnet !!

Right more faffing about and managed to do it !!!

Turns out on top of the struts is a sort of body sealant and this creates an uneven surface, this means that the brace end when unfastened can tilt a little. I belive there are 2 solutions to this,

one would be to remove the high parts of the sealant on the inside edges of the struts thus tilting the brace end sightly inward and hence lower the whole brace.

The second and the option I chose is to achive the same affect by fixing the 2 inside nuts on the brace end first (tilting it in and leaving a gap between the outside part of the brace end and the top of the strut I filled this gap with 3 washers and then tightend the nut on top and agin the whole brace fits and the bonnet shuts

Hope this helps anybody else with the same problem

Alistair
