View Full Version : Anyone else packed up for Winter?
DRUNKNORGY 10 July 2002, 11:59 Went to Stratford-upon Avon on Saturday Afternoon, Lovely weather and Thrashed it to within an inch of its life (well the rev limiter anyway). A big plus at this time of year is there arn't many flies about either. (am on it today and the suns shining :0) )
BTW Scottoiler are offering a new oil based spray which they claim will neutralise roadsalt on contact which you spray on your engine casings and leave for the duration.

Danny B 05 October 2002, 19:26 A very sad day today, spent all morning cleaning the bike, changed the oil, oiled the chain and a few other things, plugged in the Optimate battery charger and parked it up in the corner of the garage. That's it for me for a few months I shall bring it back into action next spring.
I even waxed my leathers & boots and put them away in the loft!
Does anyone else do this or am I the only fair weather biker on here?
Back to the car on Monday morning, I'm not looking forward to the M25 in a car.
Ride safe.
RaZe-=Buzz=- 05 October 2002, 19:57 I packed my bike away for winter in September..2001 (!) and havent been out on it since!
Kept it insured and taxed etc, and lent it to a family friend to do 2500 miles around europe on last month..but havent ridden it myself...

working on it 05 October 2002, 21:17 Oh no can't do that it's tooo much fun.
I will use mine all year weather permitting, don't like the rain
though.
mutant_matt 06 October 2002, 02:38 No ;);):p:p:D:D
neilbbb 06 October 2002, 07:39 not yet, every dry day is a blessing for now
NotoriousREV 06 October 2002, 09:56 it's not wet, it's not cold, it's not icy, the bike isn't getting winterised just yet!
drunkenorgy 06 October 2002, 10:11 Keep on riding till they grit the roads or its raining every day, I can't believe ppl are putting their bikes in storage with weather like this.
neilbbb 06 October 2002, 10:27 to add to my earlier post
just got back from a 2 hour blast (before the garden centre people get out and about) and my bike is going to be used as much as poss.
blue skys, not too cold and quiet roads. yum yum!!
jjones 06 October 2002, 11:24 faggot
simonburton 06 October 2002, 16:21 Just been out today :D. Great dry day, and probably put approx. 150 miles on the clock. Too early to put away yet ;)
mutant_matt 06 October 2002, 16:44 Why put it away at all? Sure, it gets ridden far less in winter but I still go out for fun on a Sunday morning throughout winter at least a couple of times a month.
The rule we use is, as long as it's not actually raining when we go out (doesn't matter if it's wet). Biking is too much fun to only do in the summer!!!! :D:D:D
Matt :)
uncle buck 06 October 2002, 19:39 Been waiting for the weather to finally break for a few weeks now, but it just keeps going and going, so I shall stay on the bike a little longer. I'm a fair weather rider these days - I used to ride in all weathers but I think my fingers and knees have suffered enough now ;):D
Danny - I'm just down the road from you in Knaphill. :D
Danny B 07 October 2002, 07:48 I've ridden throughout winters before but only on crappy old winter hack bikes.
I bought a brand new bike earlier this year and can't stand the thought of putting it through what my previous bikes had to endure.
Well I've gone back on my word already, it's dry outside and I'm going up the loft to get my leathers back.
Sod going in the car just yet, I'll be on 2 wheels for as long as it's dry.
TRIGGER 07 October 2002, 08:15 As others, while it's still dry and sunny I'll be out on it when I can. Nice dry Sunday mornings and I'll be out I think, although I can quite imagine it being put away for a couple of months.
Hoping for good weather this weekend so I can go down to Dorset - but can the weather hold ?
johnwiz 07 October 2002, 10:11 My trusty & rusty CX500 gets ridden all year:However my RSV only comes out to play when weather permits:) JohnW
brickboy 07 October 2002, 10:16 Now I'm a definite fair-weather rider -- I don't ever ride in the rain, or on wet roads ... did enough of that in my teens and 20s and now I've got my car for that malarky ;):D
The only thing I do do is to paint a 50 / 50 mix of Waxoyl and motor oil on all the chrome etc when the first salt goes on the roads, and I leave it there til Spring. Saves frantic washing after every ride and the bike comes up like new after a good Gunking :D
Jolly Green Monster 2 07 October 2002, 15:06 You are missing the dry roads!!!!
You are mad...
I am usually still riding until late November and start again in last Feb or March.. no like the ice..
Although currently doing a 200mile trekk on a Monday morning and it is getting damn cold at 6am already... I think that will be the thing that stops me, although warmer today than last week.. it is still lovely during the week doing the 15minute commute... and the Friday afternoon 200miles is fine..
I just changed the oil at the weekend and probably looking at another 5000miles before taking to the car.. at which point it might get a wash before I put it away...
Mind you couple of Xmas's ago I snapped the cambelt on the car early December and had to ride the bike up until the new year..
whilst the car was being fixed.. that was cold.. and snow joke!!
JGM :)
