Question

Having now made the trip to teh Ring, I would like to know if there are any PS2 games which have this circuit on it, the North circuit and nto the GP track. Does anyone know? If not, why not!! I think this would be superb especially if the graphics and handling were like GT3!!

The only game I know with the 'ring in it is Grand Prix Lagends by papyrus. You can pick it up for £5 on the sold out budget range. Its a top game if you like your cars to go sideways, but it needs quite a few downloads to get it looking half decent. Steering wheel recomended.

Moss - try Toca Race Driver - failry good game. It doesn't have the old Ring in it, but it does have a good recreation of Bathurst in there - what a fantastic circuit.

Grand Prix Legends runs on a fairly basic PC.

Yep GPL is pretty basic!

Should run well on any PC above a P300.

I have major problems with GPL. It doesn't seem to like my Nvidia card. I'm thinking about digging out an old Voodoo 2 card I have and running it on my server machine (4 Mb SiS graphics card) to see if that works any better.

GPL might look pretty basic, but the physics modelling is still up there with the best of today's games. Not bad for a 4 year old piece of software!

The track is fairly accurate, although it is the 1967 version, so there are hardly any barriers. And the game uses the old start-finish straight, so your first lap might seem a bit odd.

There is still a pretty active community, you should be able to find help with the graphics cards. You could try the GPL Setup Board for one.

You should also check you have applied the D3D Patch. This allows non-Voodoo cards to work with GPL better.

You can get it from the Papyrus GPL download area.

I think there may be a newer version, but I'm still using that one and it seems to work fine.

Edited to say I think there was a video on the web somewhere showing a side-by-side comparison of a lap of the Nurburgring in GPL and a real life 911 GT3. IIRC, they were pretty similar.

Further edited to say check out the tools section on Racesimcentral.com. This has a link to lots of useful stuff, like the new D3D patch and a tool called Ringtrainer (Ringtrainer lets you start from different points around the Nurburgring, so you can learn different bits at a time without having to do the entire lap).

Cheers,

Christian

Thumbs down

I think you'll find they've lost the license to do any more NASCAR crap. IIRC, they have only one more release to go and that is it.

No sign of any other decent racing games from Papyrus yet though... :-(

GPL is just too hard to control without a wheel/joystick though

It's pretty hard to control with one!

I think the problem for Papyrus was that their bosses (Sierra) insisted that they keep writing Nascar games because they were very profitable, whereas GPL was not an instant big hit, more of a slow burner.

Sadly I believe that David Kaemmer, the brains behind all of Papyrus' games has left the company.
