anyone else on here had one? I got rid of my TZR250 3 years back to get the Scoob in the garage and still miss her!

That banshee scream as it hits 10krevs was ace ;)

Mate had an Aprilia 250 GP (which I did quite a few miles on)

Top track day tool.

Rode like a 400

I used to have an RGV250M.

Good things:-
It was quite quick for a little 250.
Power wheelied all the time.
Handled amazingly.
Great brakes.
Looked like a million £.

Bad things:-
Had to be thrashed ALL the time to make it worth riding.
Had a kick start.
Needed high quality 2 stroke oil.
Most likely would need a rebuild every 10-20Kmiles, but I sold it at 7.5Kmiles.

Would I have another now after owning loads of mega machines (R1s, Blades, GSXR1000, Hayabussa etc etc). Well yes, but only as a second bike. When you are in the right mood not much comes close, if you can't be bothered then it's a right pain.

Hi,
Years ago my friend had the Honda NSR 250 Gullarm,it had Johnson pipes,M-Max chip,Rothmans paintjob and i must say was Fookin fast for a little bike.Only problem was the pillion saddle was like a razor blade which made it uncomfortable for me.;);)
He had it rebuilt a few times after blowups, after selling it he read a article on the nsr 250 saying that if you did tune it you should bore out the oilways,Hence the blowups!!!
The little fold away pillion footpegs were a work of art.
I wish i had bought it off him now:(

I had a TZ250 and two TZ350s - mental machines, loved them. :D

I wouldn't mind an old one just for track days - though some track days don't allow race bikes :(

my first bikes were the LC & YPVS Yams - spent more time in bits than they did on the road. Great fun though, 50 mph felt like light speed :) I remember one of the PB guys saying "Powervalves are great bikes to learn on, if you can ride them fast you can ride anything fast". I only worked out what he was talking about when I bought a cbr6 that went round corners, stopped, linear acceleration, no tank-slappers, etc...

The amusing thing was though that it took less time and cost less money to take the PV bores out, get them honed and new piston rings fitted than to get the CBR6's valve clearances checked...

Agree with Cookie: I had a Suzi X7 250, the last of the aircooled 2 stroke twins, with "home" tuning -- went like a rocket, sold it before the rattles got too loud .... then got a 350LC (4LO), then a YPVS ... always preferred the non-YPVS as it was hairier when it hit 5,500rpm :D

More than 2 strokes is masturbation, if you ask me ;) :D :D

Had to reply to this being an old 2 stroke fiend :)
At some time or other I've owned the following:

Yam YR5 (air cooled 350 )
Suz GT250/380/550/750
Kwak H1/H2 500/750 triple
Yam LC 250/350
Yam RD500
Suz RG500(ex proddy-race bike, 110 bhp & no handling!)
Kwak KR1S(best braked bike ever IMHO)
Suz RGV250P
Honda NSR 250 MC21 Gullarm (had a few, sold last one in April, still miss it,especially for track days)

Oops, this'll give my age away;) Cheers, John

Dazza -- like the modifications!! Very subtle - the more I looked, the more I saw. Must be a bit hairy at 90+ ....

Some questions:

What's the front damper? What carb is that peeking out of the panel? Also, taking it out to 250cc must have taken a lot of metal from the cylinder -- is it a special barrel & piston?

brickboy - Hi

The carb was an Amal 34mm, just changed that to a Mikuni 35 TMX, much better at starting now !
The dampers are kawasaki steering dampers, altho' these have been replaced with copy Ohlins.
The barrel is a TS1 aluminium, bored to the fins, and a steel liner inserted, Wiseco Piston, and uprated bearings everywhere, all work on the engine was carried out by Mark Broadhurst at MB Developments in Doncaster.
It really is a rapid scoot, handling is surprisingly good, I've surpised one or two Ducati Riders in the past !

Thanks for the interest !

Cheers,

Dazza :D

I've still got a KR1-S : think it still looks pretty good in the black/green colours. I've also got a Ducati Superlight and since even that gets hardly used the KR1-S is up for sale. but so far no takers.
I think they're fantastic little bikes, strong engine and once the powervalves open up it flies : a great little back road bike and would also be pretty good on a smallish track I reckon, eg Knockhill (not to far up the road from me)
