Ok folks, I can only afford one of these so, which would best ? Stop the thiefs before they get to far away but not know exactly where the car is....or the police potentially able to track the car and have someone retrieve it for me.

At the end of the day it is down to personal preference, but check with your inurance company as they may give you a disount if you have a pro-active tracker.

I have yet to hear about an insurance company giving a discount for Anti-Hijack.

I hear everything you say. However, I have an issue here with paying what would amount to a lot of money to effectively protect the Insurance Co who would otherwise have to pay out. If I had loads of mods on the car which I wouldn't get back then fine, would buy both. However my car is pretty much standard so not inclined to burden myself with monthly payments for their benefit. Thought I would therefore buy one of the two for the moment. Which one though ?

Nichop. I've got both...A tracker to keep insurers happy and blackjax to prevent theft.Problem is insurers don't recognise the blackjax.
Of the two I feel blackjax is by far the most useful even works if they break in and steal keys at night. Also even if they then rip the system out it still works because it disables the ECU. I can't recommend it enough.

Listen mate.Just get a Tracker Monitor,a cat 1 alarm/immobiliser and also a Disklock.I'm a Copper and i have a Scoob.I have never had mine touched with all that tackle on and i park it on the street.Thieves hate a really good visual deterrent.They also cant be arsed nicking it if it is too complicated.The monitor means they cant get far even if they do have it away. Just make it as difficult as you can for the twaTS.

As with Paul, I have the same setup on mine and so far have had no problems what so ever. I can highly recommend a disklock, don't think anyone has had there Scooby nicked with one on..

Blackjax is relatively cheap though for what it does, so it should be a worthwhile investment.

Yes, the insurance co will pay out, but what they think your car's worth and what you think it's worth will be different. Plus you've got the hassle, stress, etc.

Do both. Tracker first, if insurance give you discount :D

A disklok is a BIG yellow (or limited edition silver) security device that covers your steering wheel making it virtually impossable to drive your car away.
Noted as being probably the best visable deterrant to theives and lasting over 15minutes to attack tests (and we are talking serious attack here, hammers etc) its probably the best parked up device for the money (costco do them for under 50 quid i think :eek: )
A blackjak on the other hand is a device that cuts the car out if the keys are taken from the owner, i wont go into detail but are worth the money ;):D

don't forget the Blackjax system invalidates your Cat 1 certification.
My clifford dealer wouldn't certify the installation on my last car if it left with blackjax enabled.

Pah! is all I'll say to that. ;) Follow thatcham to the letter and I suppose it does - the facts, as I understand it, are that thatcham don't have a category for anti-hijack devices and therefore can't certify an alarm meets cat 1 if it has anti-hijack enabled.

For peace of mind, my blackjax is always on. The insurers know exactly what I'm running, and are quite happy especially as it means the car won't get far...

My lovely insurance co aint bothered about cat1 alarms/immobilisers so i run an anti hijack system as it has saved atleast one persons car that i know of ;)
Let your insurance co sit there and battle it out, no cat1 cover or no car, i know which one they would prefer ;):D

If the Blackjax is fitted as a standalone device i.e. not linked to your alarm, then it does not invalidate your exisitng CAT1 alarm. I had this confirmed by my insurance company and Clifford.

My local dealer told me Blackjax can only be fitted with a Clifford alarm - is this right? Don't really want to have the original cat 1 alarm ripped out and the expense of a new system.

Blackjax can be fitted as a standalone device, it does not need a Clifford alarm or any other alarm to be installed. Clifford's website has a link so you can find an approved installer in your area.
