Here is a full lap of the Nurburgring in my STi5 TypeRA V-Ltd from a few weeks ago. I have one of the quicker bike riders onboard with me, bit of a nutter, he rides an R7 round the ring.

The lap is an 8:37 BTG time, not my quickest of the weekend, but its more entertaining.

Hope you enjoy it

John

Awesome

That cars not running on tryes...its running on rails
Shame the speedo wasn't in the frame...

Is the car's running gear as standard , suspension and brakes wise?

The tacho is though. in 5th its 22MPH/1000rpm

Standard suspension, standard engine except for a scoobymania prototype backbax, AP Racing 330mm 4 pot front brakes, 17" Mim's with 215/40x17 SO2 PP tyres.

The shocks need replacing with some better spec units as they start to overheat as the lap progresses. Perfect for the road, but not for a bumpy long track like the ring.

That looked awesome! although If I was a passenger you might have to add new pants to the shopping list aswell as the shocks!

John

What fuel are you running the car on?

You probably been asked before but do you worry about detination?

In the UK i run on Optimax or 97 Ron SUL plus 75ml of NF per tank. At the ring i run on 98 Ron SUL plus 75ml NF.

I dont worry about det, the engine runs sweet with that mix.

What i used to worry about, and this is what is killing a lot of scoobie engines IMHO, was fuel surge in righthand corners. I could get surge at 1/2 tank full on the road, even worse on track.

I sorted this out by importing an STi Anti surge fuel pump assembly, this replaces the standard intank pump. Basically it is a fuel pump assembly housed inside a surge tank. It's not perfect in design, and it costs too much for what it is, but i can now run flat out on track safely until the tank gets to an indicated 1/5, which is about 12 litres left in there.

Power station sell a pump assembly which you install inside the engine bay, this is a cheaper solution but its adding extras under the bonnet and i wanted my car to stay standard.

Glad you like the footage, driving the ring is all about knowing where you are going, or rather what is coming next, as a lot of it is blind. The biggest danger for me now is coming across the scene of a crash in the track rather than misjudgeing which corner i am at. I have done around 100 laps now so getting to know it fairly well. The scoob is a lot easier to drive than the westie was round there, it's especially easy to see where you are going and learn the track, that was always tough work in the westie.

I like the "its quite good fun, this car isnt it" comment at the end
A few of those corners towards the end had me clenching my buttocks and thats just watching the vidio so god knows what it was like in the car....nice one

John

My crappy connection won't handle 80 megs - so I haven't seen the footage...

Have you thought about doing a CD (or better - a DVD! ) for those of us with dial-up connections?

I'd be more than happy to pay a tenner or so (or whatever you think is reasonable) to cover CD cost + some markup + P&P...

I thought it was quite docile until the bit from 6mins 40secs to about 8 mins 20secs...fantastic

You should get some new tyres - those screech far too early

How about a lap with you commentating on the lines/braking points/gear selected etc - that would be very enlightening to us "couch 'ring drivers"

Lol, lord knows why I have not asked you for a lap!

You clearly brake a lot (loads and loads) harder than me, by the way the passenger keeps jerking forward!

Thats impressive John, you certainly look at home on the ring.

Should have the camera mounted up higher though. Can only see a scoob dashboard and fast moving trees at somepoints.

John,

That was fantastic! Very impressive!!

Ben.

P.S. I might not have a fast car - a MY99 Sport (although I still think its great and it makes me grin loads which John understands perfectly) - my internet connection is damn fast! Downloaded the 80mb mpeg is less than a min - 1.5mb/s!!! And I'm at home

John - sweet driving mate. I hate to think how long it would take me to get around the Ring but I sure as hell wouldnt have the ***** to blast past those slower cars at top whack in 4th!

blf21 - I take it from your profile that you have a link into JANET?

Question

Glad you like the footage. Top speed is around 145MPH on that lap. I should have another lap up tomorrow from my July trip which gives a better view of the track.

I could burn you a CD rich if you like, just mail me your info.

I was hoping Stef would have his CK@ring2 tape done by now, but it's been a while??

I may look at getting some bullet cams and a couple of onboard camcorders mounted up and do a proper atempt at getting an interesting lap together with lots of diferent angles, including outside shots of the tyres and suspension. I have access to 2 bullet cams i could rig up outside the car. Its a lot of agro sorting all the mounts up though.

Do you think if i did that people would be interested in buying a tape if it's good quality footage?

When it started getting better was when you had a better shot at catching up with the crotch rocket. Looks like the car took a beating at 8:30 when you finally were able to pass him (yeah!). Good job, I'll burn it on a cd right now.

I, too, would suggest getting a higher, more stable camera mount, especially if you do a video.

Mr. Felstead will probably do a multiangle, 5.1 DVD if you let him have the toys

Fab lap, btw. Thanks for sharing it.

I know the angle was not the best, but it does actually show the elevation changes well. It was a last minute lashup as i couldnt get the suction mount in time, there were bungie cords everywhere.

OK, here is another lap from my July trip, this is the first time i drove my STi at the ring, so it's a little bit slower. It also has the detour at T13 for the GP track, so laptimes mean nothing.

another lap of the nurburgring
