I'll reply.

I've used the Carin system for 3 years now and can't really fault it much. Now taken over by VDO Dayton and the later software is much better.

Only downside to the system is atmosphere related. On occasions there can be a problem with tracking from the satellites but has always rectified itself in a minute or so. System can use up to 8 satellites at one time but only needs up to four to keep an eye on you.

Problem is it usually happens when you need it most following directions through town centre streets!! with all the lefts and rights!!

Overall though, saves a load of grief map reading and has never failed me finding any location yet.

Ain't got an honest perspective of what specific car mounted systems there are but...

Have you considered something like a Fujitsu Siemens Pocket Loox PDA, TomTom Navigator s'ware and a BlueTooth GPS device (such as I want to sell ;) )

Obviously not a fully-fledged SatNav system but it gets me around the country accurately at street level with full voice control.

Benefits include the ability to remove from your STi7 & jump into another car with your SatNav. Walking navigated in towns/cities. Added benefit of a PDA for any contact details etc etc. GPRS add on for surfing shortly available for the Loox.

It does what it says on the box - Satelite Navigation :D

:)

I do actually use the Ipaq navigation system which I find very good, but would like something a little more detailed and always there for the ocasions when you come off route.
