Will they actually contribute anything to the 2003 season, apart from spreading oil all over the track when the engine blows up , or obstructing race leaders as they get lapped? ;) :D

anyone?

cant see it myself, look at bennelli (or, say toyota in F1). It seems to be incredibly hard to get a bike (or car) competitive at that level within a year or so, and the cynical side of me says that mr F will be more of a hinderance than a help...

To be honest I think it could just as easily be a front-running machine as one that fails miserably.

Remember that the bike is not based on a road-going homologated machine, it's a chassis built to house an engine that was intended for motoGP (the sauber-petronas project). As such that may give it an advantage from the off. They have done the bare minimum to make it eligible for WSB and the whole bike has been designed for racing not road riding. I suppose what I'm saying is that they're starting out with a pukka race bike as opposed to a highly tuned road bike.

Personally I hope it does the business, not because the team's being run by Mr F but because WSB needs shaking up a bit and it needs a variety of bikes challenging for the podium. The racing hasn't been up to par this season, and with Honda pulling out or downsizing their effort next year, yamaha already out of it and Kawasaki with an old tired machine the whole series is in danger of becoming a one-make (ducati) series. It's already gotten to the point where the top 6 or 7 bikes in every race are all usually twins.

On the flip side I'm not convinced that a triple is the way to go.

I think they said they've decided not to race at all this year, I'm not sure they've hit the homologation target yet.

good luck to foggy and the team.
still don't think they'll do anything outstanding.
