The Suzuki Hayabusa (1300cc) is still the fastest bike straight out of a showroom.
Approx top speed 200mph.

Followed by the Kawasaki ZX12-R which is probably good for 190ish.
basically every Jap manufacturer has at least one litre size sports bike for specs on these go to http://www.motorcyclenews.com/home and look under reviews.

Hey John,

I don't want to start an argument here, but...

The Hyabusa isn't the fastest streetbike any more. Suzuki, along with the other Japanese manufacturers, have started fitting speed limiters to their fastest bikes. This restricts the bike to a mere 300km/h - 186 mph. Which means that the fastest production bike is currently a 750.

In fact, to be precise, the GSX-R 750. Which will indicate 305km/h at the Nurburgring. That's 190.5mph.

The restrictor is, of course, removable. But out of the crate it will limit the bike to an indicated 300.

Oh the stats are:

Suzuki GSX-R 750 Y
749cc
176kg
0-60 and 0-100 pretty quickly (but slower than a GSX-R 1000)
Top speed indicated 305km/h or 190 mph.
35mpg :)

SB

Edited to add stats & correct speeling

I've never heard of any UK spec bike being "restricted" before.
When did they start doing this?

My Busa is one of the pre-restricted ones, so it's comfortably quicker than a GSXR750Y. Maybe not quite as quick to 60 as the 750, but after that the 750 would lose out. Still, it'll crack 100 in about 5.5 - 6.0 seconds :D

As for top end, I've seen 215 mph on the clock, which is a true 196. Not bad for an ugly old thing really! LOL ;)

My GSXR1000-K1 is restricted.
It will only show up to 186mph on the speedo, which is the Japanese Gentlemans agreement limit.
However I can tell you that it's just the speedo that is restricted, the rev counter keeps climbing and the speed does increase beyond 186mph indicated. A friend of mine with the same bike just came back from a tour in Europe and he has clocked 196.8 on the autobahn according to his GPS (which is usually pretty accurate).

Sheepsplitter,
I'm just down the road from you in Bagshot, do you fancy going out for a ride one evening/weekend? I'm on a 2001 cbr600 and need someone to ride with as none of my mates have got bikes anymore.
I'm a dry weather biker only though so no riding in the rain!
I think we spoke before when I was going to buy a R1, in the end I went for the 600 due to my 6 year gap of riding.

john, yes would love to.
I'm in West End actually, which is very very near you.
There are 3 of us usually do a run.
2 GSXR1000s (myself and Neil, who lives in Bagshot) and a 2002 R1 (Martin who lives in Weybridge).
We usually do Saturdays because Sundays we go Mountainbiking, and we don't like riding in the rain that much either ;-)

Mail me on oc95@dial.pipex.com when you want to get together.

I hope all you injected Suzuki owners have the TRE (timing retard eliminator) mod done?

Basically it's a bunch of resistors that fool the ECU into thinking it's in a different gear. The ecu restricts power in 1/2/3 and limits top speed in 6th. The TRE mod makes the ECU think it's in 5th all the time and thus gives full power at all times. Makes more difference on some bikes than others. My mates TL1000R is now a wheelie behemoth (as opposed to being a wheelie monster).

£10 will get you all the bits to make a plug in harness that'll free the power. You can't beat that for value for money ;)

John - bikes used to be restricted ages ago, although they dropped it the mid-nineties IIRC.
Back in my day it were trimming the intakes on an Exup and swapping the carb tops on ZZRs for ZXR ones - aye them were the days.
Remember reading an article in PB years ago that a ZX-10 only had 70bhp in Switzerland  the throttles only opened about a third...........
