View Full Version : just seen very silly girlie....
scoobyangel 24 August 2002, 17:12 couldnt quite beleive it.. (well i could cos there some real twits about)... but...........
as i was coming home today, toottling along the duel carriage way at 80mph... when "WHOOOOOOOOSH" past me doing at least a ton went a really really nice yellow sports bike (going so fast didnt see what it was.. and was in shock)with... and this is the bit...... a girlie on the back... and although she proberly was in the height of fashion and looking proberly really sexy to every bloke she met....she infact lacked the brain to wear anything other than a short denim skirt, high heals and a denim jacket!!!!!!
the only thought that went through my mind was how fast skin disapears when it meets tarmac at those kind of speeds..(well ANY kind of speed really)
if you gonna take a pillion... at least make sure they are wearing the correct attire..... she wont look so pretty if summat nasty happens.... not saying anyone is a crap rider..... but what if some other idiot pulled out on you?????
**just thought i'd share that **
mutant_matt 25 August 2002, 07:08 Apparently, it takes 2 seconds @ 30mph for skin to be ground away to the bone :eek::eek:
And when was the last time you saw a Scooter rider wearing any protective clothing?
Matt.
scoobyangel 25 August 2002, 11:38 i know:eek: mad mad people!!!
doesnt bone grind away at summat like 4inches per second on tarmac at 30mph??
edited to get facts correct:rolleyes:

Marin 25 August 2002, 15:29 You've got me worried now 'cos I regularly hit 38mph down a chalky/flinty hill on my mountainbike just wearing lycra shorts and cycling top (plus helmet and gloves of course) but I feel kind of exposed after reading the above.
john coffey 25 August 2002, 16:46 "Let those who ride, decide"
It's their decision, their skin, and their life, let them decide what to wear.
ChrisB 25 August 2002, 16:59 I've never ridden a motor bike or scooter in my life, but I still cringe when I see a ride in shorts or a T-Shirt
Corpulent Tosser 25 August 2002, 17:06 but I still cringe when I see a ride in shorts or a T-Shirt
I have that effect on people when I am not on my bike ;)
Seriously though, riding dressed like that is not too clever - like I have never done it - not with a mini skirt though ;)
mutant_matt 25 August 2002, 17:11 "Let those who ride, decide". It's their decision, their skin, and their life, let them decide what to wear.Absolutely, I wouldn't have it any other way. I wish society encouranged people to take responsibility for their own actions instead of the nanny state that we have developing images/smilies/mad.gif
My point was that it's stupid and they will live to regret it!!!
Matt :)
ptholt 25 August 2002, 17:15 its not just the skin loss that does the damage, when the skin is stripped like that all moisture retension is lost and the body simply cannot keep the fluids in with a huge bare patch of skin missing.
scoobyangel 25 August 2002, 19:51 agree with the "let them decide" thing... but ...... if you are taking a pillion, wouldnt you want them to be as safe as they can be???...... and the guilt would be horrendus should anything happen to them if you had not taken every effort to make them safe.
MATTeL 26 August 2002, 01:45 I still have a mark on my arm from the friction burn I got from my leathers from a 50mph lowside. Leathers were scuffed I was fine, well worth the investment.
Never got on a motorbike without wearing them, even on the hottest of days.
I've pillioned a few times and still wore full leathers.
I agree people should have the choice but it does worry me and make be feel sick when I see people riding and pillioning without leathers.
Dainese did make some protective clothing that scooter riders could were without looking to odd, the boots sat just about the ankle and even had carbon protecters, first glance and the looked like trainers!;)
brickboy 27 August 2002, 09:31 Just bought some black jeans with kevlar lining in the places most likely to get friction (knees / arse / hips / thighs), cost about £50. Should help to stop skin loss .... Prefer them to leather trolleys for general tooling around, cos they just look like black 501s.
Marin, I used to cycle competitively (road races etc) and I've seen some very nasty gravel rash from offs at 25mph etc. Don't know what can be done about it tho' -- by the time you've got body armour on it'll weigh half as much as the bike!
Marin 28 August 2002, 00:07 Brickboy - body armour is out for XC riding but I guess half the fun of going flat out down hills and stuff is the buzz of knowing what might happen but nailing it and not falling off!
Just get out and ride!
brickboy 28 August 2002, 09:11 Marin, I prefer my two-wheeled transport to be powered these days, I'm a lazy get :D
ScoobyJawa 28 August 2002, 10:21 Matt,
Heres one scooter rider that wears protective clothing ;) :D :p
Amaze's me how many people I see round Bracknell on sports bikes in just tracky bottoms and a T shirt  :(
Cheers
Neil!
Steve Hartland 28 August 2002, 10:59 Managed to have an off while practicing on the enduro bike, even though I was wearing full MX gear and body armour still ended up with very nasty gravel rash on forearm / shoulder etc, v. deep and hurt like Fuuu, more than the broken bone in the hand which I didn't realize I had, until I went to A&E a couple of days later, mainly to get forearm sorted out, oh well, plaster cast comes off next week, yey hee.
Wouldn't let my misses on the back of the GSXR until we sorted her some leathers, boots, gloves etc, what is good for me goes for pillions as well. Seen too many gravel rash victims, only takes a seconds lack in concentration by yourself or more likely somebody else for you to go down sliding.
Steve
Cheeky Jim 28 August 2002, 12:37 It is the responsibility of the rider to ensure that the passenger is fully covered up with suitable clothing.... it is selfish to expect a pillion to ride with no protection whilst the rider is togged up in the latest alpinestars stuff!!
And I always seem to notice scooter riders wearing f**k all - but mostly, they can't even wear a pair of decent gloves...madness
ScoobyJawa 28 August 2002, 14:20 Cheeky Jim, got the gloves too ;)
I must be a rarity then ;) :D
IntegraR 29 August 2002, 17:46 Did you get a photo of her? phone number?
oh, and um, how terrible, short denim skirt you say, terrible
:D :D

daz b 01 September 2002, 20:34 Its up to them people say,but its up to us to foot the hosiptal bills
scoobyangel 02 September 2002, 10:48 just bought a new jacket as the armour in my other was "moving" around all the time... what should of been protecting my shoulders was more likely to protect my chest!!!!
you can get a good protective jacket for less than £100... a small price to pay i think!
(this corner was taking wearing all saftey gear ;))
